OK, I'll admit it: I've never been crazy about the map, but I'm apparently among a very small minority. No matter--to each his own. But a fraglimit of 50 seems a bit excessive to me. Ditto for a couple of other maps (the names of which escape me at the moment), but this one really puts me to sleep! It's played so often that it seems to me that reducing the fraglimit wouldn't deny anyone the pleasure of playing the map, and it would make those who are sick to death of it a bit less annoyed to see it come up.

Anyone else feel the same way?

It's not my favorite map by a longshot...
I wouldn't set the fraglimit to 50 even if it was...
30 is about as high as a fraglimit should ever go unless you want
to pass out on your keyboard from boredom...

If it were up to me (which it's not and probably never will be)
I'd set a stinkin TIMElimit on the map... like 5, maybe 10 minutes tops...

The Sheridan server is set up for a fraglimit of 30 and timelimit of 20 mins, too bad not many people play there  :uhoh: People tend to leave if someone hogs the PS, not that a few good super shotgun blasts wouldn't take care of that....  :fight:

Yes, IMO the only two maps that should have a fraglimit of 50 are fact3 (already set to 50) and biggun (still 30). In these mayhem maps you get like ten free telefrags before you even get a chance to move =P.  But maps like city1, lab, ware2, waste2, strike and bigspacegunup(?) would be more bearable with a limit of 30. (Although 'strike' can be fun for a longer period, but that's my opinion of course.)

The city1/sheridan server is the TS Admins' hommage to the Las Vegas hosted Sheridan server from years ago. 

The gameplay on Sheridan is "different":
  • The original server had a long timelimit which focused the game on a "king of the hill" style --> Where the players competed as titans, getting loaded up to 200a x 200h x 200ps.  A stats score screen showed the longest frag streak without death.
  • Taking down a loaded player can take minute(s) of chasing them around everywhere, through teleporters, sometimes popping them into lava.
  • Another highlight is the outisde throne arena, where you get in 360 degree rail battles as you try to control access to the power shield.
  • There are several 'regulars' on the Sheridan server who I don't see anywhere else.

So, this server has a relatively longer timelimit to be more like the original.

Minor edits to 8-year old single player maps are needed to prevent 8-year olds like your brother from blocking heavily used elevators so that others can't use them. Fun!! Even if there might be a way to frag him it's just plain lame behaviour. You can personally thank him for edits like the elevator-fix on base2.

I like your updates to the single player maps.  In particular, I felt blessed when I found a teleporter in the lower lift room (aka the worthless room) in the ammot depot.

As an experiment, I've lowered lab, city1, and waste2 back to 30 frags, and raised biggun to 50 based on what was said here.

So far I've had one comment, "just wish city1 was still 50, the others I could care less."

City1 should still have 50. It's one of my favourite maps, if not the favourite one. I like the landscape and the whole atmosphere, yes, even the bfg - I never understood why people complained about using the bfg, it is a legitimate weapon in this game and this game is primarily meant to give us fun (and not some shitty competition). Moreover, I'm just as good with the bfg as I am with other weapons, no need to prove anyone that I need to bfg to achieve something...

Where I really like to see a low frag limit is the "space" map, with its low gravity annoyance, an annoyance that I highly dislike in other maps, too, when it comes to gravity lottery. :-(

Panjoo, do you even play on vanilla?  Or are you one of those people who hide behind aliases?  And your fix for the elevator was good.  But completely changing the flow of some of the maps via more teleporters and weapons was not really necessary.  Thank goodness your hacked-up version of hangar2 was removed.  I thought I was playing on hangar3 for a while.

I'm just slightly annoyed by people trying to make unnecessary changes to a server for an 8 year old game.  Just leave everything alone.

Don't take any offense to my post, because I was not attacking anyone.  Thanks.

I'm not sure if you knew, but, the fraglimit is not specified in the map.  Originally we used to run all the maps at fraglimit 40 timelimit 30 (xquake settings).  Then we lowered it to fraglimit 30 timelimit 20 a few years ago.  But there still seemed to be a number of maps I saw complaints about, so I started experimenting with some per-map fraglimits (lowered some, raised some, implemented via a script.)

Funny thing is, I got a few "why are you changing it!?" comments when I first added the per-map fraglimits.  But I also got some positive feedback...

Maybe city1 will go back up to 50 frags... There definitely seem to be polarized opinions about it.  But I can't imagine it's the end of the world to have it 30 for awhile.  (Every map used to be 30 before the fraglimit script was added.)

But completely changing the flow of some of the maps via more teleporters and weapons was not really necessary. 

I guess you would be the only q2 player I've ever encountered who liked getting spawned in that basement elevator room in ware1.  Because otherwise, I've heard nothing but positive comments about the teleporter Pan added down there (and the fix to the lift to make it usable from the basement.)

Your point is moot seeing as how I assumed that the reader would understand that I was talking about in-game.

An example of one that is unnecessary is the teleporter found in ware2 by the SSG room.  There's a "hidden" teleporter in the wall that takes you directly to the hyperblaster room.  What's the purpose of it?

I've found it nice on occasion, when someone crouching on the elevator, keeping it rasied.  There's no way to dislodge them, unless you go back and wait for the grenades to respawn.  Now, I can just ignore the crouching elevator-holding bastard and take an alternate exit.
