All r1q2 needs is nocheat event-triggered way of autorecording. The cl_autorecord is just spamming huge demofiles to my mod folders ;(

But I use r1q2 still though, cl_async 0 is the way to go if you can't jump with r1q2

Is there some explanation somewhere what that variable does and why it isn't 0 by default?

All the information you need is here
And its a mistake in my opinion to keep CL_ASYNC 1 by default

R1q2 feels just like standard quake2.  Not only cl_asynch 0 but one needs to configure direct input mouse and mouse accelleration fix.  They can be set easily under the options menu, and permanently in your autoexec.cfg or config.cfg.

Maybe so for you, but it feels a whole lot different to aprq2 and other clients, to me - I cant jump for the life of me with r1q2, and although cl_async supposedly sorts that out, I dont feel like re-do'ing my team binds, drop binds and such, also aprq2 has in game winamp control, and without that, i'd die, it's cool just to have the playlist in the background, being able to hit "u" to start it, and "i" to stop, and "p" to go through it.. godsend!
