Sorry,But I will be going back to q2jump.exe or standard, there is far too many options that I will never use, also I tried doing what was said in help and now my aim is slow and yawspeed spins at 100000 which I need as I use arrows still.Increase mouse sens and yaw goes back up after setting it to 150.If someone is willing to give me all the right settings as to fix then I will continue to use it.But I just cba re-configuring everything, would rather just go back to previous q2.exe.

But other than that its very good if u need all the commands and that it offers.

The qconsole.log should contain version strings if you want to bother parsing it :). And this thread is an attempt to verify my guesses of R1Q2, AprQ2 and EGL being the most popular clients as I need this information for another project I am working on. Obviously a thread like this at the R1Q2 forums would be somewhat moot.

Kingsize, nothing should adjust your yawspeed. Although I believe some Q2Admin versions will attempt to control it. Are you testing online or offline? I can't reproduce what you describe on my own server with no Q2Admin.

my path in q2 life was a move from 3.20 to nocheat.  Then to EGL.  It was the best looking client ever.  i dont think i used it beyond 1.7 or so, so i dont know what EGL is like now.  BUT, it was slow and gave horrible frame rates to my weak video-carded rig.  i moved on to r1q2 and had the smoothest gameplay of my life.  Nothing beats r1q2 client on a r1q2 server.  However, i am a sucker for looks, and use aprq2 1.19 as a compromise.  It looks great, but gives very impressive frames.  i like the feel.  It is not as smooth and seamless as r1q2 feels, but i feel cheated any time i fire up r1q2 and look at its stock graphics.

i am very thankful for all r1ch offers, and r1q2 is the client i recommend to others.  Aprq2 needs a bit more attention to run right and just isnt as easy to use.  i do have to still help people with adjusting their default config settings. i wish the stock config in r1q2 was closer to what most people need. (higher cl_maxfps limit, gl_swapinterval "0", etc).

im still a noob at this stuff after all this time, so my apologies if i have mistated anything.

I added
set vid_ref r1gl
set cl_cmdcomplete 0
set cl_async 0
set cl_smoothsteps 2
set cl_protocol 34
to end of autoexec
I usually use sens 5 but with r1 I need 6 or 7,but when I do that yawspeed spins super fast, but its still set to 350 which is what i usually use.But when I lower yaw to 150 mouse sens slows down.Idk lol.
I just wanted to try as people say its best for jumpmod,I'll read up on it more at some stage.

You shouldn't set cl_protocol 34 explicitly unless you have problems, doing so will remove all benefits provided by the new netcode. The sensitivity change probably comes from the built-in acceleration fix (m_fixaccel). You may also wish to try DirectInput, m_directinput 1 for smoother mouse control.

I like aprq2 the most because of the many options and the more smooth graphics and movements.

In r1q2 when I use the default opengl driver the graphics looks for me the same as aprq2 (default opengl driver). And the default opengl graphics looks very nice for both clients.

Are you sure you are doing a vid_restart? R1GL uses OpenGL just like ref_gl, so brightness should not be an issue.

R1ch,  while yer here :)

I use the gl_coloredlightmaps 0,  but if I play on either of two other systems I have access to
it wont work,  they both have build 6557 and both use r1gl.   Am I missing something?

Alright,

I was working on my config to add team binds for weap drops and locations.  I went on server to try it out only to find "Q2 out of the box" will not work for locations  :frustration:

So I guess its time to upgrade my client.

Even though I have played for years, i'm the kinda person who just loads up and plays  :rocketright:

So I'm a newbie to custom configs, clients, etc.

I'm running a low end system, 1.2 gig, 512 ram, video card went out awhile back so I put my old voodoo 3 in it.

I'm gonna go back and review this thread for input on which client to use, but additional input on clients or configs are welcome.

Input on where to find the clients and what I need to do to set them up would also be appreciated.

Your system has adequate power to run just about any client out there, as long as you use reasonable video settings in some of the more candied-up clients.  Remember, a PII-266 was the fastest thing on the market when Quake2 hit the shelves.

If helps somebody im gonna post my Q2 / r1q2 setup:
I have TFT with 60Hz refresh rate, and dont know why the only command I get decent physics is:
Code: [Select]
gl_swapinterval 1
This command set fps to the same refresh monitor, just 60 fps, but my physics are great and smooth, I can't do box jump on dm8, but i don use to play that map either, and other config just get me crap video / Physics
the other commands are:
Code: [Select]
cl_maxfps 90

//R1q2
set cl_async 0
set cl_smoothsteps 1
set cl_railtrail "4"
set m_directinput "1"
vid_ref r1gl
vid_forcewidth 1280
vid_forceheight 1024
gl_hudscale 2
set gl_coloredlightmaps "0.3"

gl_swapinterval 1 enables "sync to v-blank" or "v-sync", which means that video frames are only written to your card's framebuffer when the monitor is doing a refresh.  This will result in glassy smooth screen painting even when you're moving around a lot, at the expense of a lower framerate and some per-frame latency.  In short, if you use this setting with a 60Hz TFT, you're seeing exactly 60 frames per second, recardless of your cl_maxfps setting.  If your machine can do it, you may have more favorable results with cl_maxfps 120 and gl_swapinterval 0.  As 120 is a multiple of 60, framebuffer writes should generally align with video refreshes, and you'll get the physics advantages of the higher framerate.

Heh, yea.. I've seen that as well.  I think it *could* be just a primitive, error prone fps counter..not sure, tho.  I've been meaning to investigate how Quake3 handles com_maxfps/cg_drawfps and implement something similar in Quetoo.
