Hello mister bearded admin, a clarification is needed here:  It has recently been "mildly", and it was previously "severely" for 18 months. I have always maintained this.  I have no idea where this "for no reason" thing came from. 

Server Admins are the parents in the rec-room, when there is a lack of parenting for 18+ months, it is then enabling of bad behavior, which makes the rec-room a worse place for all the kids that just want to shoot pool and have fun.

PLEASE record a demo or at least save a condump, and post it here.  If you can show evidence, then I can help you.

feel free to post a condump here on the forums showing an example of the objectionable behavior.  Being able to see the condump helps me locate the incident in the server logs.

As always, if someone is abusing the servers in some way (including spamming private messages) you can always post a condump of what transpired.  That is the most straightforward way to help us get the information we need in order to determine whether administrative action is warranted.

I think the general point here is:  at what point does repetitive abuse become over-the-top? I know playground superintendants who banned kids from the monkey bars for a lot less time of being a problem, than this abusive history.  I am referencing 18 month old history (already been there, done that, with condumps and other communications), and you are referencing recent history (which wouldn't exist at all if things were handled normally and properly a very long time ago).

[interject: the vpn abuse that was threatened has already been going on for a long time now, and I have been informing people of this for quite a while now.]

Is there a reset value or something? If you are a repetitive abusive troll for months on end, but then get a 30 day mute, all is good and you are "reset", and then allowed to gradually nudge up your abusery?   Is that how it is seen?   


In any game server in the 2000s this type of  server abuse and community abuse   would have been lock, stock, barrel, banned instantly and the problem you are now seeing would have been long gone.  We wouldn't even be discussing it. Outta there.

Keeping it classy is "good sportsmanship", not whining about losing, not cheating, and not spamming people with private messages which you damn well know is on the list of things you don't do around here, which is exactly why you did it.

What I was describing here before the "spamming private messages" part was a general definition of a player who exhibits good sportsmanship, aka "keeps it classy." If you aren't actually doing things like whining about losing or cheating, then why would you go out of your way to think I implied those two things might apply to you? So, to make it perfectly clear to you, so as to not tarnish you impeccable reputation, sir... I did not and am not accusing you of whining about losing or cheating. Mkay?

When you're on the servers spamming people with mm2 "to treat people like total shit", it doesn't matter to you that they might be trying to be nice and civil with everyone. Newton's third law states that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. And MY reaction to you not giving shit about annoying the hell out of people on the servers... is to treat you like shit on the forums for MY OWN amusement. And you don't like it. Good. You're not supposed to. You're supposed to say to yourself, "I don't like people being assholes to me, so maybe I'll stop being an asshole to others."

My personal perceptions of the situation: A year ago, he was VPN-ing around bans, ghosting with 2 open clients, doing other things to heavily disrupt the game (I can't recall specifics, but I'm sure shloo and claire would remember), and from what I saw, it became what I could only describe as somewhat of a "terrorist hostage negotiation" to convince him to stop, and in the end, he was granted full privileges to play as if nothing had happened. (Perhaps the "reset" that Pepp is referring to.) He's been a problem for a long time. I'm sure pepp feels frustrated and confused that nothing has happened before now.

what they dont understand is by not banning tards like 888 ,, its actually killing the game itself...how many new comers has he ran off .. or current players ?  if the trash were taken out I bet twice as many ppl would play the game..

Haven't bothered to read over this thread that much, but me and quadz personally got in a few spats over this exact topic. My argument was that allowing people to continuously grief the server just enabled people to keep doing it and passed the responsibility of dealing with it onto other people who weren't doing anything wrong by just "ignoring it". In addition, a very large majority of multiplayer games out there either actively disallow or at the very least, say they don't allow this type of behavior. The idea is that part of the success of a game in the modern era is to create at least a somewhat welcoming atmosphere to new players or people who aren't "in the know"; and even if shit talk is present, genuine toxicity and harassment shouldn't be allowed. It was always my assumption that ignoring someone worked best when maybe you didn't like someone or if you thought they were just being kind of annoying in chat, not when they were being a genuine disruption to everyone.

It was also very confusing why things like the n word and slurs against black people like "porch monkey" quadz would always put a stop to, but slurs against Mexicans, gay people and Jews were fair game on the DM server, but that's another argument altogether.

Here was quadz' stance on this issue when I brought it up in private around 2017:

There has been a consistent feature over the years of personalities who get riled up by trollish language, and "I have to deal with it" is the sweet spot in the Venn diagram.

Is it forseeable there could be any utility in reflecting on when and whether one is ever truly obligated to pay heed (or even give a fleeting second thought) to comments made by some anonymous rando in a video game? What if he said things, and nobody listened?

If, for the sake of argument, one were to adopt a view favoring free expression over censoriousness, then might not /ignore be regarded as a tool empowering individuals to tailor their own online experience?

If nothing else it allows solutions to converge from both directions (client and server.)
