New map finished - LevelF (CTF, DM)

Another day, another map :)
This is a game changer, literally!
Do you know about any CTF map that can be played as a duel?
No?
So this is something you have never seen before, something so revlutionary, so unique, so amazing,
that only succesful launch of a Falcon Heavy can contend for higher appreciation.
I know, i should be more modest, but after many iterations, finally, i've got it!
Everything seems to be in place, everything is balanced, it just is as it should be.
Gameplay on this map - it is something i'm proud of, it works.

"Subtle" tweaks, like putting an engine into a cart, yes.
Did i mention on YT that shape and size is from levels ?
Is in the description of the map written that is based on Vertigo5 works?
I'm not a CTF expert, but playing this mod 1 on 1 isn't  so obvious.
As far as i know there is no other map where you can see the enemy flag, it is always long and complicated route, demanding big teams to play.
This playing field is finally not empty!
Always was.
Now has a substance.
Of course that is my opinion.
Your opinion can be different.
That's the thing about opinions, they vary greatly:)

i also remade levels.bsp into a CTF map last year
also there are a ton of CTF maps where you can see each flag from end to end.
fortsup.bsp
baricade.bsp
1on1.bsp
to name a few but there are a ton out there.
anyway nice tweaking on the classic rails map. I play a ton of CTF and will check out your map.
in the remake i did. the flags are located in opposite corners of the map behind those walls (see second photo)

a lot of the ones i have worked on are named beav something.bsp bvtest#.bsp or rwzctfsomething.bsp

you can order everything by date modified and see a lot of the maps i have worked on 2018 2017

most maps i have done are remakes sometimes subtle modifications of existing maps sometimes heavy modifications.

ive only made a couple maps from scratch and maybe just one that is somewhat finished bvboxz33 this one says unbound volume when i try to make it so not quite sure whats causing that. the map runs fine for me. but some players with slower systems says that bvboxz33 runs very slow for them.

here was one finished version of custom map i made. the mario was borrowed from birthday.bsp by jitspoe, the birdcage was borrowed from an old CTF map. the rest was all from scratch i believe.

I did look in to your collection, many maps just silently crash my quake, some trhow an error, others are an excersise in ugliness (possibly first steps in mapping).
Some are really nice (level1, level2, level3 are really well made single levels)
Then i don't have textures for some -> your maps present red shapes to me...
There is a lot of stuff, it's time for maintenance!
I mean it in a big way.
So called e-sports was invented through our Quake, Camper-Strike has grown from Quake vice,
modding, mapping, "building blocks" was born here (take this Minecraft!)
We have Open Source core written in most efficient and most noble programming language - C
We went through generations of players, there is a ton of stuff that was made, an it still breeds.
Most of it is dirt, but we have many gems as well, it's time for cleaning and maintenance.
Some may think that this game is old, but no, this game is mature.
We have years of advantage over everyone else.
We have seen and tried everything.
Now sentimental trend is on our side, gained experience will pay.
Time to get serious.

There is a potential, it's a platform for playing, learnig of programing, experimenting with maps, servers, and social survey in time.
There is plenty of old computers and a lot of young gamers looking for a good time and a way to e-sports.
Is there a better and less (technically) demanding game for gaining skill in FPS?

If i have your attention, please bare with me.
Obviously i have made LevelF with regular CTF and DM in mind,
when you play with simultaneous hooks, it won't be as intended, so don't be to harsh in your judgment.
My knowledge about CTF is limited, so can i ask you to rate let's say 5 best ctf maps?
And if you can, write what is so cool about them (a place for trick with a grapple, place for good rail/rocket/chain attack, and so one...)

as2m7.bsp is one of the most played CTF maps of all time. it works well in any flavor of CTF weather its classic L-[Fire q2ctf with the grapple, or LMCTF, Expert CTF, even Railwarz CTF with the fast lazer hook.

nxctf4  this map is popular in both L-Fire CTF and Railwarz CTF

lfctf5 This is a railwarz fave not sure if it gets played much in other CTF mods or not.
lfctf1 This is also a railwarz fave
rtctf1w This is probably the most played railwarz CTF map of all time. L-Fire plays pretty often too.
marics_ctf21 This is a remake of rtctf1w marics version very nice map played often
marics_ctf18 This is another marics map popular in both lfire and railwarz
xlctf2b This is one of the all time most played railwarz maps.


those are all some of the most played maps for CTF.

What makes a good CTF map? now days in 2018?

something small easy to navigate from flag to flag.

open areas to use a hook or grapple, stuff to hide behind.

smooth hallways that dont cause you to get stuck on walls when trying to gain speed strafe jumping, or hook bouncing.

stuff to hide behind.

no doors.  keep the flow of the game moving.

its good for CTF maps to have a converging point in the center. sometimes 1 2 or even 3 paths that all meet in middle.

as2m7 did a great job of being small easy to navigate no wall or ceiling is ever too far to reach with the grappling hook.  there are small rocks and angled ramp pads all over the place that help you pick up speed. There is lots of flat surfaces but also tiered floors.

as2m7 doesnt really have a converging point in center like most maps but its very well balanced in the layout. each base has a L shaped perimeter around it with two entrances into the base. There are 2 caddy corner smaller rooms in the center that divide the two perimeter rooms.

there is a symmetric version of as2m7 called as2m7rb  red base edition. its slightly a larger map than the original as2m7 we play it in railwarz when we have larger games going.

I think i've got it.
All items out, railgun is a starter weapon for your server config (Railwarz)
Jump Pad doesn't work so it's unnecessary, elevators (if any) has to be open, because falling into them is irritating.
Flat walls with soft angles, few pillars and some platforms on a different hieghts.
Self explanatory.
I'll try to cook something for you :p
There are speed values for hook in server config, could you guide me so i could emulate/start local server for testing.
I love'd regular DM with hooks on u2, one could make nice jumps ofer central passage, but it was mainly because hook speed  was softened, slight diference in speed makes huge difference in behavior.
With proper server config i could make it just so:)

we use the TMG mod for Railwarz (mostly instaGib CTF ) but we have been getting quite a bit of players in recent years who enjoy FFA Railwarz so thats been fun to explore DM maps

Railwarz we start with the rail gun, infinite ammo, so maps do not require any ammo, weapon, or item placement.

flags, spawn pads, and maybe ctf banners are about the only needed entities so making maps for railwarz is a lot less tedious than for all weapons game types.

the jump pad is fun i wouldn't remove it.

elevators could be replaced with more jump pads that blast higher and faster than the one in the middle.

Thanks for taking the time and effort to help create maps we can use for Railwarz :)

we have a pretty active community and will definitely find some time to test out any maps anyone produces that is somewhat playable for CTF of FFA

First - a map with central converging point, few pillars of different heights, obtuse angles, hook-ready.
0.001 version i have already tested with 1900/900 hook.
Falling damage OFF is advised :)
