Considering what it cost us in American lives the last time that we weren't ready for the Russian and Chicom backed NK army to come marching south to take over that specific peninsula, we should have more than just 3 carriers sitting there.

We learned in the 50s that the air force wasn't enough to control the peninsula against ground forces being resupplied through protected routes through China that we refuse to interdict.

We should have a good 100,000 ground troops with their heads on straight sitting there to stiffen up the ROK, and more tanks and mobile rocket launchers than you can shake a stick at.

That war has been going on since the 50s and we sure as fuck didn't start it. A group of Russian citizens of Korean descent and a shitload of Chinese communists started it, and got a lot of us killed to flex the borders of world communism a touch and fight over a bunch of fucking rocks vs "the west" for propaganda purposes.

They never gave up, and the west in the form of the UN bitched out long ago and wanted peace instead of us pushing them all the way back over the Yalu into red China.

Back then, a bunch of sissies in high places bet on the commies tossing nukes our way over the outcome of a limited war, and they backed down and tried to negotiate peace with a group that had no common interest in peace, while offering them a ceasefire for nothing.

Giving them a ceasefire removed an incentive they had to sue for peace. The commies didn't want peace, and unsurprisingly they've managed to prevent it for 50+ years now. Maybe the west will learn their lesson on this after 100 if we're still around.

The communists will never ask for peace, until you literally shit on them so hard they can do nothing else.

North Korea’s latest missile launch appears to put Washington, D.C., in range

The missile launched early Wednesday local time traveled some 620 miles and reached a height of about 2,800 miles before landing off the coast of Japan, flying for a total of 54 minutes. This suggested it had been fired almost straight up — on a “lofted trajectory” similar to North Korea’s two previous intercontinental ballistic missile tests.

The Pentagon said the missile did indeed appear to be an intercontinental ballistic missile, or ICBM. The latest missile “went higher, frankly, than any previous shot they’ve taken,” Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said. He described the launch as part of an effort to build missiles “that can threaten everywhere in the world.”

If it had flown on a standard trajectory designed to maximize its reach, this missile would have a range of more than 8,100 miles, said David Wright, co-director of the global security program at the Union of Concerned Scientists.

“This is significantly longer than North Korea’s previous long-range tests, which flew on lofted trajectories for 37 minutes and 47 minutes,” Wright said. “Such a missile would have more than enough range to reach Washington, D.C.”

The U.S. capital is 6,850 miles from Pyongyang. The previous long-range test, in July, could have flown 6,500 miles if not on a lofted trajectory, experts said.

The US ain't gonna do jack shit in North Korea. They have nukes now. Now they are virtually immune from being attacked. If the US attacks them, they could go nuclear, and the US would be blamed for it. At the same time, if Korea attacks anyone with a nuke, they know they'll get annihilated in response. But... maybe Kim Jong Un's fuckin' nutty enough to hit the button anyway. Don't be afraid that the US will start WW3. Be afraid that it's now impossible for the US to throw the first punch.

The US has foresworn a first-strike since 1945. It was the fundamental principle of mutual assured destruction in the cold war. Only if attacked, would the US launch a nuclear strike with the intent of maintaining overwhelming superiority in that retaliatory capability. If NK were to launch on a trajectory against Washington or NYC or even the west coast there would be an immediate response. 10 ICBMs would would answer a single one from NK. There is a difference between launching with and without a payload and there is a BIG difference in getting a nuclear payload to survive reentry and detonate successfully but NK has been proven to be surprising and it is very clear they are getting technical help from China even as Trump says China is our partner. He's being played. Bigly.

Transit time from launch to reentry on a true targeted launch is 35 minutes. That's how long it would take for a nuke to make it from North Dakota to North Korea. Same thing goes for NK to Los Angeles or Seattle. So far, NK has been very careful to demonstrate lofted trajectories, very much not to be misconstrued to be targeted flights. Saber rattling.

The only reason Trump's nuclear button looks big is on account of his tiny hands operated by his tiny brain. The problem with "I can kick your ass!" bravado like Trump is fond of displaying is that sooner or later you have to put up or shut up and this draft-dodging twinkle toes with bone spurs is mostly a shut up and go home personality that will back down and declare "victory" even as he cowers in his bunker. This boastful and full of bullshit but when it comes time to put up a true fight he "settles" or declares bankruptcy.

The real problem is that the fundies in Trump's camp think we're living in the end times and they are crazy enough to go along with anything that will help bring it about.

At first glance it's funny that he thinks he can stoop to Kim's level. Then you think about it some more and you wonder if there really is any adult supervision. But I suspect he's only parroting what his generals actually say in private to him. Then you think deeper and you wonder about the credibility of the US in the world. Of course, as the biggest military in the world and the fact that "American interests abroad" is code for "We'll take what we want from you if you don't take our bribes first" and "by the way we have these fine weapons systems to sell you so you can intimidate your neighbors". While this is true, there has been talk by many government officials on tv about the possibility of non-nuclear pre-emptive strikes against Kim Jong's missile launching pads, preventing him from conducting tests. I think lindsey graham also mentioned it briefly when he was talking about having the threat of military force backing our rhetoric.

Its too scary to even contemplate. You are risking millions of lives. AND THEY ARE REALLY THINKING OF DOING IT!!!!!!!!

The trillion dollar question is whether or not Kim Jong Un responds by shelling the living fuck out of south korea or by using a nuclear device against us or against an ally, OR by sitting mouth agape and frozen in fear and submission.


While not using a pre-emptive nuke, shelling his missile pads wiggles around any agreement signed by the U.S. prior, and could provoke nuclear war


Every scenario is bad, and Kim Jong not responding is highly unlikely.

These next 12 months are going to be very scary. Kim jong already tasked his scientists to create a new missile for his anniversary
