Biggest surprise and best thing I've seen in the NFL preseason so far has been Zach Mettenberger's backup QB-ing for the Tennessee Titans against Atlanta tonight. Granted he's not the starter and he's facing the 2nd and 3rd stringers for Atlanta, and the 2nd stringers are pretty bad, and the 3rd stringers are downright AWFUL... but... he's still carving them up like a christmas ham and making it look pretty easy. If you ask me, Tennessee is making a mistake letting Locker start at QB for the Titans. More than likely what's gonna happen is pretty much what happened against the Falcons in the first half of the game: he's just gonna lose. And when he loses enough, THEN they'll toss Mettenberger in there to see what he can do. But I'm quite impressed with how Mettenberger's accuracy and decision making has improved since he was wearing an LSU uniform last year. If he had some highly motivated team mates that would work hard and make plays with him, he could end up doing some great things in Tennessee.
Doesn't make me too optimistic about Atlanta's chances this year though. Pisses me the fuck off that they hire an aging past-his-prime Devon Hester from Chicago for umpteen millions of dollars and then turn around and re-sign Eric Weems, who is currently a MUCH better kick and punt returner in my opinion. And Hester isn't even that good of a receiver either. He's a fucking waste of money. They do it only because they want to somehow lay claim to his past kickoff return for TD stats... which means JACK FUCKING SQUAT in this day and age in the NFL since all of his return TD's were before they moved the kickoff spot up closer to the 50. Pisses me off that they waste enough money for 3 or 4 players salaries on one guy like him while cutting and trading other perfectly decent players. Fucking IDIOTS running this team.

So..my johnny football prediction is looking solid..
Saints look pretty impressive with brees at the helm, hopefully the defense steps up this season with the new editions. This year is make it or break it time for Ingram, contact year and coming off the end of last season and this preseason he definitely looks promising going into this season..hype!

I definitely agree about Hester. Even if he was in his prime, I would not pay big money on a kick returner.
99 percent of all kick-offs are going to be touchbacks, so the kick returner does not have the same impact on the game as they had before.

Well, returning the kickoffs is specifically what they're paying him to do, so I don't see that he's gonna take mostly knees even if the other team kicks it to the back 3rd of the end zone. They're obviously hoping he's gonna bring some kinda elusive returner skills to the table and get the Falcons some better field position to start drives. Problem is... he AIN'T. He's gonna foolishly catch it and run most of the time and rarely even make it back to the 20, and probably fumble a few at key moments too. I predict (more like GUARANTEE) that he will single-handedly be responsible for at least 2 games being lost this season.
I was kinda high on Buffalo in an earlier post saying that I thought they were gonna take some people by surprise this year. Not so sure about that anymore. According to what happened last night with Buffalo, it's all gonna hinge on whether or not EJ Manuel can manage a game and complete passes consistently. Dunno what it is with this dude, but he plays decent one week, then the next week it's like his brain is running at 50% speed and he ain't seeing shit as quick.
Was watching a video on Yahoo earlier about college coaches that might be on the bubble for replacement. Muschamp in Florida was one of them. Hadn't paid much attention to the Gators in the past few years, but apparently last year Florida lost a game to Georgia Southern, a game in which Georgia Southern didn't even complete 1 pass. Ewwwwww. Ugly.

Last season was the worst season for FLA since the 1970's I think. The Gators had a lot of injuries to key players, but the team was not a great team to begin with.

Well from my perspective, they can only get better this year. Seems like all the local sports guys have high hopes for the Dawgs this year, talking up all their oh so wonderful receivers. Problem is the one receiver that actually truly IS good, Malcolm Mitchell, I think he had ANOTHER season ending injury in preseason practice. Dunno if you remember it, but he was the one last year that tore his ACL or some shit celebrating a play
he wasn't even in
during the first game of the season against Clemson and he was gone all season long. So it's kinda doubtful he'll be back at all this year. From what I've heard, he's still undergoing post-surgery therapy sessions and has barely even walked on it, much less run, since the surgery about a month ago. So there's a slight chance he might be back by mid or late season, but it's a longshot. And even if he does come back, chances are he's gonna reinjure himself. And one more time might fuck him up for good. He's a great WR, and he'd do well in the NFL just like former UGA WR AJ Green's been doing with the Bengals, but frequent injuries are gonna hurt his draft chances worse than his knees.
But anyway, yeah, I say the Dawgs high hopes for this year ain't gonna materialize. I have almost 0 confidence in our starting QB this year. Sucks too, because HB Todd Gurley damn well deserves a Heisman if you ask me. That kid's elite and on par with the likes of Hershel Walker all day long. UGA's gonna have a helluva run game, but probably gonna suck at passing. I honestly predict that Florida will end the season ranked higher than Georgia.

Oh yeah, heard some other completely retarded news today. Apparently whoever Georgia Tech has as their starting QB this year has ZERO career games playing QB. So this should be fucking hilarious to see... some dude who never even QBed in high school struggling like hell to run a college ACC offense. Haunted, don't even sweat the Heels playing the Jackets this year. Even if the Heels suck, they should be able to dink and dunk on GT, probably get at least 2 turnovers too.
Fuck me running. When the fuck is Tech gonna fire Paul Johnson already? Getting really tired of hating the Yellow Jackets. It would be nice to have a good reason to root for them again. But I refuse to do it until they pull their heads outta their asses and become a conventional offense.

North Carolina suspends 4 players for first game. They are playing Liberty, so it really should not matter.

Yeah, and that guy from USC who supposedly jumped off a balcony to save a drowning nephew... complete lie. I knew it.
He was making a getaway from a B&E robbery apparently. Didn't see that coming really. I figured he was drunk as shit at a party and took a dare like some of these idiots do. That would've been a more believable story.

Yeah. I thought A&M was gonna be a non-issue this year without Manziel. Granted South Carolina is not too great on defense this year, and their QB isn't that spectacular. Bama's gonna have some real competition in the SEC west this year.

I'll comment more later since I'm about to put the UFC main card on, but a few random things:
-UNC's opener went close to how I expected.
-So did GA v. Clemson(I watched some of this game).
-Announcers overrate PAC still
-UCLA is bad
-Bama v. WVU was close
-This FSU okiestate game is close at the half
-Wisco LSU is looking to be a close one

Clemson @ UGA actually went "sort of" the opposite of what I anticipated. I figured Georgia would come out in the first 2 quarters playing decent, maybe snagging a slim lead, but then I figured they'd come out tired in the 2nd half and let Clemson slowly come back. Turned out Clemson came out strong in the first half and faded in the 2nd while Georgia remained pretty fresh looking. Granted Clemson seemed to forget how to pass down the field so they never tested Georgia's safeties towards the end. I predicted Georgia wouldn't have a passing game to speak of but they'd have a good running game, and that definitely happened. I knew my man Gurley would kick some mega ass, and he did, but I didn't figure Keith Marshall would totally suck as bad as he did. He might be re-injured, I dunno. But it looks like they have plenty of good depth at RB, especially with this freshman Chubb, I mean HOLY SHIT, did you see that kid? All I can say is "damn". But for the first time in what seems like a long time, Georgia starts off the year ranked decently (#12), and actually wins the opener to improve that number (probably end up #11 or #10).
And if Texas A&M is as tough all season as they were against South Carolina on Thurs night, Alabama ain't winning the SEC West this year. They looked pretty unremarkable against West Virginia. Then again, West Virginia isn't entirely an easy win this year, they got tons of speed.
Georgia Tech... still pretty much sucks. They mostly had their hands full with Wofford today. Sad.
