Yeah, I always knew that about him. Could be why most of their music kinda sucked. :dohdohdoh:

I'm probably legally deaf in one ear. Used to have lots of serious ear infections as a kid. Got so bad that they eventually had to stick little tubes down into my ear canals to keep them from swelling shut permanently. I was pretty young, and I don't remember anything about having them put in, but I still remember EVERYTHING about when the doctor took them out. Holy fucking sheep shit, that shit hurt like a MOTHERFUCKER. The first one in my right ear wasn't bad at all. Didn't have any infections in that ear. But the one on the left side... the tissue had swelled up tight against it and was slightly swollen over the end of the tube, which made it hard to remove. They didn't give me anything, they just stuck some long tweezers down in my ear and yanked it out real fast. Felt like she was pulling my nuts out by way of my ear canal. And then the bitch was all like, "Aw, that wasn't that bad, was it?" Had I been a little older, I would've taken the tweezers away from her and stabbed her in the eyeball with it and said, "It's about as bad as that, you fucking smart ass!"

The tubes kept my ear canal open, but it was already too late to prevent permanent damage to my hearing as I already had scar tissue formed on the ear drum itself. But since I do have one good ear, I still hear okay. I really don't even notice that I can't hear so well out of one ear. I can only really tell if I isolate each ear by plugging a finger in each ear canal. To describe what my left ear sounds like... it's like taking a bunched up wet bath towel and holding it over your ear and then trying to listen to anything. :D

And then I've further damaged my hearing in BOTH ears in my teens by years of blasting music through closed over-the-ear headphones at insane levels while mowing the lawn until it drowned out the sound of the mower motor completely. My ears would be ringing for a couple days after ever time I mowed the yard, hehe. And then all the concerts I went to with no ear plugs and blasting the radio in my car. And I know all of it has done permanent damage because these days I have to listen EVERYTHING at louder volumes than anyone else I know in order to hear fine details. So I doubt I'll be hearing jack shit anymore if I live long enough to make it to my 70's.

Yeah yeah. I know plenty of people think he's gay. He moves like a bit of a flamer. But he's actually not. Dude's been married to and divorced from WOMEN a few times in his life, and actually has 3 or 4 kids by more than one WOMAN. In fact... I've always thought Gene Simmons' kid looked a little more like Paul Stanley than Gene. :D But no, he's definitely NOT gay. Dudes seen more pussy in his lifetime than 1000 gynecologists.

I never knew he was deaf in one ear.

Yeah he is. Could be a result of Gene Simmons tongue poking in his eardrum. :P

What is fascinating about disability in some people, is that it never held them back. Like Tommy Iommy, who lost the tip of 2 of his fingers when he was young.

Yeah, but early in his career with Black Sabbath while Ozzy was fronting the group, I wouldn't have called him particularly talented. He pretty much sounded like a guy missing parts of his fingers. His overall technique was pretty simple, repetitive, and predictable. As the 70's went on, he got better and better as a player though. And then all of the sudden in 1980, Ronnie James Dio joins the band then Iommi's playing just COMPLETELY changed and actually showed some real honest to goodness talent. Dunno if he had any kind of formal lessons between the time Ozzy left and Dio joined, but it sure sounded like it.

just being in the presence of Dio probably made a person 20 times better at metal.

Dio was the shit. He was a shrimpy little dude, kinda hokey and goofy at times. And seeing as how he was such a huge sports fan, he just seemed like he would've always been the coolest dude to sit and have a beer with. Probably the most down to earth regular joe DUDE you could've ever met... even though he had a huge lavish victorian looking house with gaudy whole suits of armor and dragon statues everywhere. :D Still, he was just always a really cool guy. Not a fucking prick or a total moron like a lot of these rock stars can be. Like... Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley.

I'm 90% sure he had little rubber prosthetic tips on those fingers that made all those really fast hammer-on leads possible.
