You're expecting to much: people already say Doom 4 totally sucks based off a dozen screenshots and it's nowhere near release.

I didn't think Doom 3 stunk as much as lots of people said it did. It didn't have the same feel as the first 2 games because the updated more realistic graphics allowed them to turn into more of a horror show than some run-n-gun action movie type of deal, which I thought was pretty cool. A lot of the weapons in Doom3 seemed to get boring quickly, but that's largely due to how INUNDATED we've become with first-person-shooter games, whereas when Doom and Doom2 came out, they were a little more unique and new at the time. I never got the chance to play Doom3 mulitplayer. From what I always heard, not many people did due to the fact that it became unpopular so quickly.

I liked Q4, personally. Single player came back, whereas in Q3 they just took the multiplayer concept and converted it to single player with some bots, pretty boring. I don't suspect ANY FPS game will have weird movement physics again like Q2 did. Honestly, it would probably seem hokey and out of place in any newer game. No doubt people would complain like hell about it too before understanding the advantages of it in terms of adding skill dimension or whatever.

I honestly don't give a shit if they make a new Quake game. I don't see much NEW that they can add to the franchise and it's story. To me, Q4 became everything visually that Q2 could aspire to be. If they want to do something new, it would make the most sense for them to go back and recreate the Quake1 experience with new technology. Q1 and Q2 were so different. Q2 was a little more futuristic, whereas a lot of Q1's visual style drew from medieval inspiration.

Guess I'm starting to get old.  I guess Q5 would be neat, but for me...I think something has been lost with these newer games compared to the old school ones.

I have Q4, but never finished it.  Just didn't have that magic "feel" to it.  I have Doom3, never finished it either.  I have finished Q1 and 2 single player many times.
