I think that much of the fun is that it it TRULY ANNOYING to real players.  The kind that treat quake like some kind of profession or a mission from god . . .  (at least that's a part of the fun) . . .

The first time I played Q2 online (or anything online) was 97 or 98.
It was on Mplayer and I finally figgered out how to get in a game.
I remember specifically the first two maps I played.

The first game I entered into was teams (males vs females) I had no idea at first.
Apparently I had spawned in as female.

If your idea of fun is frustrating others, you should find another hobby (not directed directly at Habib, but to those who play Quake 2 for that reason, ala bot users, etc.)

i have always loved campers.

There are few missions or priorities in FFA other then controlling the powerups and armor.  It always gave me another mission to accomplish.

Funnest things i have always loved:

1. Chasing Toxic Monkey all map with BFG/Chain
2. Killing professional campers
3. Controlling the map and its armor and power ups.

init_2.win was a lot of fun.  He was actually a good player, had some good skills, and I think he was a HPB.  He sorta reminds me of Cochise, don't think init was the type to ever change his name though.  They're both quite good, smart, do things you don't expect, but still, camping was/is their primary way of getting frags.  He was fun to try to kill though, since he was the camper, or "the bad guy", and I was "the good guy" trying to save the day.  And he was tough enough that it wasn't always a sure thing to de-camp him.

That aside, it's still more enjoyable for me to get into heated combat with people that are really good.  Killing campers is something I enjoy more when there's not much competition, and it's a goal at least, something to do.

I agree w/ habib, I still would like to see it back - maybe on another server? I think  if console were to fire one up running the regular rotaion that it would be quite well populated...

Hmm could you clarify please?  See what set back?  We already have a 'dm' server running dm1-8, and xquake running the single player maps.
