Dueling/tdm: what client files are legal and what isn't?

Just trying to figure out how to set up my pak. I know people have timer wavs, player hitsounds that tell them health (found it in purris pak) bfg hums, nade times, etc etc. Now I have no qualms about using brightskins and a custom hud, but where does everything else stand? ATM i'm using some q3a sounds and I have a nade timer. powerup/armor timers are fucking bullshit and would get you banned in any other game. same with the modded player hitsounds. Anticheat doesn't complain about any of my modded files so as long as AC doesn't complain then I'm fine?

In USA/tasty zone servers, we don't use timers. The 'play' function which plays .wav files is disabled if you use anticheat.dll .. We've always encouraged competitive play without the use of timers, and via the gameclock and/or a general awareness of the item respawns like in other fps games. 95% of it is 30 seconds for weapons, 20 seconds for armor/ammo(a lot more simple than quakelive).

Also--I just saw your edit with the screenshot. Those appear to be some sort of star-shaped spiked models, they're definitely not allowed.. although I'm not even sure what models are being spiked there, haha. Seems more annoying than beneficial.

Are you sure that you're using AC? type 'aclist' in console to see if you're valid.

no i'm not using ac because the latest q2pro doesn't support it. those "spikes" are really just hit sparks and it's just for seeing where my shots go. it wouldn't win me a game. but are custom sounds allowed? when i do use an ac client it doesn't complain about anything.

Custom sounds are allowed for the most part(just not an increased rg hum, foot step noises, and maybe 1 or 2 other things), those "hit sparks" are not allowed and it would undoubtedly be flagged by anticheat. Q2PRO may be cool in several ways, but the obvious downfall of the new version(no anticheat compatibility) is that it can encourage the same assumptions you're having about what's allowed and what's not

In the competitive tdm/duel scene, most of us use r1q2 with anticheat. If you're interested in this scene, I encourage you to do the same and give my paks a try.. I use crosshair 9. If you need any help with the settings, let me know.

AC doesn't flag it when i run r1q2. Nothing is flagged actually except my crakhor model which i never understood why.

"hit sparks" are what you see when you shoot bullets at a wall.. normally it's just a gray cloud of dust. dont really think its that big a deal, mostly because it looks like its just an aesthetic thing.

other than that, everything looks good.

the phrase 'seeing where my shots go' made me think it applied to projectiles(rockets, blaster, hyper).. if that's the case, then it would help you dodge these projectiles and avoid splash.

Get on a server and enter this in console:
-"players" *to find your playerinfonumber*
-"acinfo #"

Sometimes you see in these paks that they have a custom model, which AC always flags. If the skin for the model was made for the original model, then your skin will work anyway without that custom model, so you can just delete that custom model from your pak since Q2 loaded the crakhor model from pak0 first.

I just changed the skin of mine, made it the same blue as my ammo shards.
Just something pretty to look at.  I tried the spikes but they get to annoying.
