Myers-Briggs Psychological Test - - Whats your Code?
« on: August 06, 2013, 05:57:19 PM »
So I take this test every once in a while just to see whether or not I have changed or just to remind myself of my code. This test is called the Myers-Briggs psychological / emotional personality test developed by Carl Jung, one of the fathers of modern day western psychology.

I decided to share this for those of you who have never heard about it, because it is quite accurate. And I'm sure some of you have already taken this test and know all about it.

The test can be completed within 5 mins and can be found here:
http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/jtypes2.asp

Either way, it is a fun topic to share and discuss, so please take the test and share your code and what the analysis of your type reveals!
Analysis can be found here:

enfp

The Inspirer

Enthusiastic, idealistic, and creative. Able to do almost anything that interests them. Great people skills. Need to live life in accordance with their inner values. Excited by new ideas, but bored with details. Open-minded and flexible, with a broad range of interests and abilities.

As an ENFP, your primary mode of living is focused externally, where you take things in primarily via your intuition. Your secondary mode is internal, where you deal with things according to how you feel about them, or how they fit in with your personal value system.

ENFPs are warm, enthusiastic people, typically very bright and full of potential. They live in the world of possibilities, and can become very passionate and excited about things. Their enthusiasm lends them the ability to inspire and motivate others, more so than we see in other types. They can talk their way in or out of anything. They love life, seeing it as a special gift, and strive to make the most out of it.

famous enfps;
Hunter S. Thompson
Mark Twain
Oscar Wilde
Julian Assange
Walt Disney
Che Guevara
Fidel Castro
Jack White (The White Stripes)
George Carlin

i remember taking this test about 2-3 years ago and scoring intj.

Don't you just love these tests. They tell you how wonderful you are and all the things you're obviously so good at. They always neglect to mention what a horrible fucking person you are though. This bullshit test never asks how many people you've killed or whether you could conceive of killing another person. I think that's a pretty important question when trying to figure out someones personality, don't you?

Don't put too much stock into such a test. You may have tendencies, but those tendencies can change based on who you interact with or any other adverse external factors. In the realm of psychology, much of this type of shit is all theory without much practical application... kinda like horoscopes. They're vague, they make you interested, and you believe whatever you want to believe about it.

In the realm of psychology, much of this type of shit is all theory without much practical application... kinda like horoscopes. They're vague, they make you interested, and you believe whatever you want to believe about it.

Not quite, manly man...
You have to respond to questions, and your responses are what dictates your code, as opposed to a random birthdate.

Whether or not you believe the test is perfect, is a valid question, but Jung's theory isn't nuclear physics, and does make some sense...

Are you more of an introvert or an extrovert? Do you tend to use your emotions vs using logic?

Questions can be designed to generally describe the kind of person you are.

The test has been in use for many decades and i believe the FBI and CIA use it or some version of it to determine your propensities if you apply to work for them.

As shown above, both "good" and "evil" individuals display the personality types: (hitler vs gandhi). Ultimately what you do will never be predetermined by a test, but that's not what the test aims to reveal.

So lower the sarcasm from your manly mouth, and take the test. I am curious to see what your type is.

much of this type of shit is all theory without much practical application... kinda like horoscopes. They're vague, they make you interested, and you believe whatever you want to believe about it.

Agreed on the question of dubious practical utility.

They're different from horoscopes in an interesting way, though. The way they've codified personality traits, there are sixteen combinations, and one can read over the types prior to taking the test: http://www.personalitypage.com/html/portraits.html

Of course, the types are broadly drawn, and in that sense like horoscopes there will be some hits and misses in the characteristics ascribed to any given type. However in this case there's also a deeper technical reason for overlap between types: the more letters in common between two types, the more overlap.

But being able to read over the types prior to taking the test provides an avenue for falsification. I find that I can trivially weed out the majority of the types as being far too unlike my personality. Most have at least a few statements that are complete deal breakers for me. I'm left with just a couple possibilities that fit pretty well. (In my case I can't fully perform an unbiased pre-test analysis, as I do remember the result from taking it 20 years ago.)

Taking the test again today results in INTJ, same as last time.

Here's another avenue of falsification: flip all the bits on the test result. The description of the resulting type should be about as poor a match as possible. For me the opposite of the INTJ result would be ESFP. And indeed the description of the ESFP type is pretty much my polar opposite.

So while I can agree that all of this may not amount to anything amazingly practical or useful, its falsifiability makes it at least appear to reveal something interesting about the gray matter of our species.

And in terms of practical utility, I suppose if nothing else it's good to be reminded (from my point of view) that there are some personality types who tend to not "understand or believe in the validity of impersonal judgment", and who "do not like to deal with hard facts and logic." That may feel completely alien to me, but it's harder to be judgmental upon reflection that there are large numbers of people whose brains are apparently wired that way. (And who nevertheless have many of their own positive traits.)

The tests are vague being that everyone has at least part of each component in their personality, and the participant is usually a bit biased towards what they WANT the answer to be to x question, opposed to what the true answer is...

I have a hunch that we'd see an example of this if someone took this personality test while pretending to be 2dum..as we perceive his personality ;)
