Magic, compress your demos if you are worried about running out of webspace. 7z commandline tool has the ability to recursively compress all files inside a folder into their own separate archives. This involves using a mask (i.e. 'magic_demos_railz/*.dm2'). Q2PRO has built-in compression for demos which you may enable as well.

Are you bringing up something new? Or are you rehashing something that I've already addressed in prior posts?

If you're referring to the gaming of the rating system, what you've said about "no status change" makes zero sense.

If you're not referring to gaming the rating system, then, I'm still not sure what you're on about.

For anyone who missed my prior posts regarding the rating system:

- douche-magic was observed to be flooding the rating system with negative/positive votes targeting specific users (similar to what Adren and Focalor had done with the prior rating systems)
- douche-magic admitted his intent and posted a gloating screenshot
- douche-magic's status was changed to "A Preponderance of Wankery" immediately in response
- The ratings mod is missing the administrative tools to clean up per-user rating abuse, and, as I've said: (a) I had thought it had the tools; (b) I always expected rating abuse to occur at some point, based on experience with the prior systems; (c) Since the administrative tools don't exist, I need to develop them; (d) As I've said, I'm not particularly bothered by this as I knew beforehand such tools would be needed sooner or later; (e) The only real surprise was that a purge-rates-for-user tool I thought existed, in fact didn't exist--but what I intend to write will be more powerful anyway (purge rates for user A that specifically affected users B or C, kind of thing, to specifically target abuse patterns.)

All of the above had already been stated, but it was spread out over a couple threads.

One thing that till now hasn't been explicitly stated, is that once the administrative tool is developed and douche-magic's ratings have been purged, he will likely be blocked from issuing further negative or positive ratings. In the meantime, I've been deriving some (small) enjoyment from letting him continue to waste his time. All those rates will be lost, like tears in the rain.

how about all the doctored negative votes i got, when i posted in a non-smack category. so 1 person can abuse the voting system more than another? what about doing a clean slate for all users instead then?

it's only fair that way. we all know the votes are not counted on a per post basis. you can thumb down any post from a user who hasn't even said anything mildly insulting. example: the picture above this post..

I've deliberately not peeked at the votes so far, and I have myself abstained from voting, as I've been more interested in the ongoing discussion, for the time being.

But however the voting turns out, the poll results aren't going to supersede any typical administrative response that would otherwise normally occur.

For instance, if I became convinced, or even began to strongly suspect douche-magic was cheating, we don't need a vote. He'd be summarily banned and blocked at the router.

And again, regardless of whatever the vote is, I've stated what action is being taken in response to the gaming of the rating system, in any case.

So yes, there might turn out to be lots of votes for, "no change in his status is currently warranted", but that isn't going to block whatever standard level of administrative response to his behavior that seems warranted.





Edit: I talked above about what the poll won't affect, but neglected to elaborate on what it might actually accomplish.

One example: If there turn out to be a lot of votes for applying a mute, it's likely a mute will occur, even if the votes for mute aren't strictly in a majority. Merely having "enough" votes for mute (however arbitrarily that amount is determined) would indicate to me that some level of disruptive behavior on the servers is occurring. And given douche-magic's history, the level of tolerance for new shenanigans is going to be low.

I would like the record to show that if I knew how much backlash up voting a few of my friends and down voting one particular troll would cause, I would never have bothered. My understanding of the voting system is that it's just a green/red bar that has zero impact on the functionality of the forums. My friends and I had already been victim to numerous undeserved down votes and It appeared that some of the biggest shit stirrers on the forums somehow maintained stellar ratings, so like in Rome I did like the Romans did. If quadz wants to disable my voting privileges I'm fine with that and sorry to have wasted his time (no matter how little).

man, why are you always the first person to fucking cry wolf?  I don't get where you ever think that you should be treated fairly around here or be given the satisfaction of your rates(and everyone who did it) being wiped clean and you feeling like you somehow have won. 

And I'll say this for the 4th time, WHO CARES.  it's a fucking rating system on a fucking forum that is linked to a 15 year old fucking game.  WHO CARES.  And if the rates you were given, bug you in some sort of way, maybe they can be served as a reminder to you about how you're a complete assfuck and nobody likes you around here and nobody is to blame but yourself.  You would prolly receive great ratings/positive ranks a whole hell of a lot more, had you not been a complete faggot (bundle of sticks) since you've joined this forum.  I mean hell, some of your very first fucking posts(before you went apeshit and deleted em all) were of you whining about people cheating/dodge bots.  You basically joined this forum to stir up drama, get attention and use it as an outlet to your RL since nobody would ever wanna be caught dead hanging around someone who looks like you(LOL, alien eyed gump).
