Mostly true, but I came to play for a bit and I work at 5am everyday :P.  Woulda been on sooner had I known it was planned for yesterday.  I forgot to check the day 2faggot said it was, oh well.  Played enough to watch golgay sit on the other side of the map and try his dick off to rail people 4on3(him being on the team with 4) because anytime he went where everyone else was, he got shit on, so he'd stay far away from the battles, lolnt.

Rick was trying hard to get that ssg frag on me. actually can't believe he missed. lol. my rusty ass comes back 1 day after every few months and i hear some shit talk. :crap_huh: :thumbsdown: lol man grow up. But since you wanna be on the rag, those 80 ping rails weren't photo shopped neither. :smiley_feet:  :cheesy:  :smiley_aafa:  :smiley_acbe: :bondage:

Since 2dum is hosting the thread. perhaps he should go through the arduous task of posting screenshots of all the base ra2 maps and have a poll on what maps the console should eliminate from the map roster. it would save some time when playing on the servers. or wait until wednesday, when im off from work. if not done by then , i will try to post the screens from every map and post it. also i think changes in the default Ra2 settings would also help. hyperblaster on: rounds 10- 20: anything else that comes to mind i will edit and post.

wtf golgo, keep all the maps, we know them by heart anyways. the rounds can be voted easily. its classic best of 9 to start out anyway. hyperblaster change would be good though. Im still waiting for more people to vote before changing the day. so vote people

Well actually, Golgo just got his first (and possibly only) positive rating from me.  I actually like the ideas of having hyper on for all maps, having rounds automatically set to 31 or whatever (so we don't have to vote more rounds at every map restart), and having an actual map rotation where they can be voted on at the end of each map (similar to how jumpmod and ctf is set up).

The only part I disagree with is getting rid of any maps.  Having all maps is fine since ra2 is mainly for nostalgia nowadays less than competition.

Maybe quadz can look into doing this if he has time?  :>

If hyper was added in ra2 the ammo should be reduced comparatively to the other weapons. I think it would have to be 25-50 cells for me to consider supporting it though. You sacrifice as much with the gameplay in ra2 as you gain by adding hyper.. limiting the cells would limit the cons more so than the pros at least.

Not sure why you'd conclude that hyper was removed from a specific/particular mod DUE to peoples' connections(the same connections used hyper in the other mods.....), although the lag hyper caused clearly has potential to be a secondary factor. Not to mention the problem would be abundancy of particles hindering one's stone-age video gfx. I'd be far more inclined to think that hyper wasn't included for particular game mechanics(just like it's presence, absence, or placement does in maps from 97-present).

Everything is spaced out in ra2.. you can already sit back wherever and snipe long distance rails(from a safer distance than in any other mod). You can already hide behind a corner with rockets/sit somewhere spamming rockets at an opening... Lets not equip people with a 3rd and even easier excuse not to advance their position in this mod... which as I said diminishes the gameplay/philosophy that ra2 has always had. Which to me is a sacrifice, despite my own views.

i'll try to add some perspective..

hyperblaster is a weapon that's whipped out in desperation most of the time competitively in usa. When shit isn't going your way, hyperblaster is a good way to bail yourself out. It's very easy to aim/spam, especially in retreat... Against me, people employ this tactic a LOT. People rarely use it offensively unless they're messing around, when ironically this weapon is just as easy to aim offensively as it is defensively; the only difference is that you can run away spamming one way without even aiming it and still kill someone. . . that doesn't make you better, it doesn't make the gameplay better.

So, now we're at the aspect where hyper could actually add balance, despite aimless spam achieving so, just by adding more control to the person who is not in control... which has been Golgo's philosophy for awhile with hyper to my knowledge. All I have to say is that y'all are DRASTICALLY overlooking the fact that the hypothetical superior player, the guy in control, can ACTUALLY aim hyper. I don't think you guys quite understand that the same exact luck applies to these people as it does to you.. only people like myself or ah! would be tracking players nearly perfect across the entire distance of fack's arena, taking away 200 units in a few seconds... then luck for the other person would be someone rounding a corner to eat random hyper spam.

you won't see us pull out hyper defensively because we're basically never in that desperate scenario, and it's not like those measures work on us anyway. If you think it's your favorite/best weapon, all i gotta say is that if ah! or me were to share the emphasis you place on this weapon rest assured your opinion would change quickly about it.

So, less cells. Promote people to utilize the weapon and not the buffer that it's spam provides and the luck that can result from it.

When I started ra2 in the early days, it was almost exclusively played with rockets and rails. In fact, you would get many players crying and bitching if people used anything but those weapons. If you finished off someone with an ssg blast or chain, rather than a rocket or rail, plenty of ra2ers would call you a pussy haha.

Once a lot of tdm players jumped in and started using ssg and above. ra2 players had to adapt or quit. Break out a chain gun on them and they would cry.

I know that early on dialup was an issue for hyper. Later on hyper was often voted off when it was set, for the reason Haunted mentioned mostly. In a spam mod, it was considered to be spammy.

The few favorite maps that are played now are pretty much the most open ones. There are a few stock ra2 maps, that rarely ever get played, where the spam is insane when you get 5v5 or 6v6.

on 200 ping you walk into ALL shots/projectiles/whatever. See my reasoning for why hyper is the easiest weapon to newb someone with in comparison, and you'll have your answer for why hyper is more problematic for a 200 pinger in comparison..

I mean, hyper blaster entities aren't the only thing making a roundtrip from client to server in q2. Everyone knows that a jittery ping will flaw that but, not all dial-up connections were insanely jittery.

Honestly, if you run into a bunch of hyper spam it is no different than running into a bunch of rocket spam... and chain still out damages hyper up close, and hyper is harder to hit with at a long range... so not seeing any problem at all

bluemeanies is right.  Hyper has been turned off by default ever since the release of the actual ra2 mod.  It was turned on during beta and many, MANY people complained about it because it lagged the servers to hell and back real bad, and if you had two people using it, it was horrible.  It would lag the entire server up for minutes at times and even make some people time out, and you would always have wonderful assholes that would purposely use it for this reason alone.  People used to get banned for using this weapon back in the day btw.  The limiting cells thing is kinda silly imo and I'd vote against that.  There was a server at one point in which the server admin had went through every maps config and reduced the number of rockets/grenades and SSG shells that you started out with to try to encourage people to quit spamming and to aim more, well that server died within only a couple months due to inactivity.  Spamming is and always has been a part of ra2, that's never going to change.

As far as Golgay's suggestions, I am actually with ex on this and have to give him a positive rating.  Turning on hyper for all maps would be nice and having the rounds set to 99 would be great as well so it doesn't have to be voted each map.  The only reason I support this is that 9/10 times I vote for more rounds or even just vote to have hyper turned on, the second I click vote changes I get the dumb message:  "The server thinks you're a bot, reconnect to fix this".  And ya 2dum, you're right that the 9 round thing has always been the classic number, but this isn't 1999 anymore either.  Nobody cares about winning a set anymore and/or it doesn't prove shit anymore, so who cares(cr33pz cares about this, as he is a fucking idiot, but that's about the only person who does care).  Also, Revilla had a website up at some point(I'll search for it when I get a minute) that had a review on EVERY stock ra2 map, and along with a review of the popular sub-maps with em, with pics and all.  Everybody knows the maps, so like 2dum said, who cares.  If you wanna do this golgay, then you do it.  Don't try pawning this off on someone else you lazy fuck. 

PS.  I'm better then all you at ra2.
