I do not agree at all that using Vent for a pub setting in the way I used it is cheating

I'd consider this a form of cheating if it occurred in a pub match on a TDM server.

Maybe ra2 is different, or maybe it isn't. I'm interested in what the ra2 community thinks.

Unfortunately the poll associated with this thread is asking about Ventrilo in general, rather than specifically about revealing an opponent's location.

Well, the administrative opinion is all that really matters in the end, so if it is decided on an admin level that it is cheating then I'll stop.  I still won't agree that it is cheating though, tbh.  This is why:

ghosting would only help me if I had somehow completely lost track of someone and they were hiding somewhere golgo-style.

That's the only reason I was doing it.  He hides wayyyyy too much and slows up the game.

Because of the last man standing aspect of ra2, people hiding until their whole team dies and everyone else gets bored enough to run around carelessly is actually a strategy that horrible q2 players will try to employ.

I can't find it in me to feel bad if someone chooses to ruin their crappy attempt at gameplay with vent.

It seems lame yes, but not as lame as making sure everyone else leaves the rarely used ra2 server out of boredom.

2dum doesnt HIDE, he plays scared, moves slowly, and tries not to get into open fights but rather spam more... you dont even get that ex because you are so bad at quake, pretty sure 2dum is better than you

what haunted was talking about is doing things like on dm1, going under the stairs where ra is in ffa and hiding in the shadow to stall time and piss people off... or doing that annoying thing where they stand in the corner just above lower RL to shoot one rocket off and drop down when they are found... or if they are AFK... only kind of moments where ghosting is okay to report position to speed shit up

I can't speak for ra2 players, but it is definitely not acceptable by any standard for pub or tournament in any team mod in any quake as far as i know... it really goes to show how poor of a sport ex is, and it was already pretty apparent that hops is a dick, so that doesnt help... the fact that he admits to it and acts proud about it, just makes it even worse

Being the ra2 master here, I'll leave my opinion.  There are no fucking rules in ra2 pub, at all regarding this ghosting shit.  It is nothing but a spam fest with hardly any skill at all.  There is a voteable option called "competition mode" as ex has already said, that can be voted in at anytime to prevent ghosting.  Shit has been going on for YEARS, way back when Roger Wilco was the first teamspeak program, people did this shit on the pubs then.  And even at one point, RW was considered cheating in matchplay ra2 haha.  Even if people don't use vent to do this, say_person has always worked the same.

What happens next?  Admins are going to have to start frequenting the dead ass ra2 server when the whole 2-6 people are playing to look for people who are using vent?  After this, I'm sure no one will ever admit to using it to ghost people anymore and how will you ever know?  Go ahead and shut the vent server down, there are 900 more servers you can join and continue on your merry way.  I like you 2dum as you keep things entertaining, but this is kinda stupid to complain about.  Only thing quadz can do to prevent this is to change EVERY map setting in the server file for ra2 to automatically have competition mode on.  Which will get old quick.

for the record: I DO NOT HIDE. You will often see me rocket jumping, traversing the sewer, and spamming rockets from the bottom of dm1 towards the top of elevator. I will occasionally hide around a box if i know im near someone and they dont detect me. When 5v5 gets narrowed down to 1v1, u  want to take the win so your team can win, so people become more cautious. i avoid the open space but so does everyone else. Nubcake even says i dont hide. I got the brains of einstein and heart of kevin garnett ex. dont be mad haha

occasional is vastly different than SLOWING THE GAME DOWN or being 10x worse than you.

Sure it's cheating, just like using a KB+mouse when the other person is using a KB only.  Or someone uses custom brightskins and the other doesn't.  Or someone uses a changed brightness and the other doesn't.  Or someone uses forcemodels & the other doesn't.  Or when someone uses custom models and the other doesn't.

The admins @ Acme feel that this is cheating & have put up a warning. This is not the first warning for h0ps (who had been banned in the past for doing something similar in CTF). Noone has been banned. If people want to "ghost" then they should refrain from doing it on ACME vent regardless if you feel it is cheating or not.
