i don't actually think it is cheating... it is a pub, and i do agree that it is difficult if not impossible to do anything about... but pub or not it doesnt change the fact its a complete dick move, and ex is acting proud about it.... temp ban imo, just because of how he is acting about it, give him reason to think twice about trying that hard to ruin the game for other players when it is already pretty dead

everyone has that capability, a lot of people do use voice chat when they game anyway, but not all of them are ghosting and giving away positions... saying it is a strategic advantage is bullshit

Now you're just being an idiot. Many MANY people have done this shit in ra2 in the past and have bragged about on the server while doing it or shit talked the other team. There are no rules regarding it, so why should a ban be put in place? I don't care how he's acting about it, there are no rules about it. NOBODY has been banned in the past on ANY ra2 server for using vent or bragging about it, so why start 15 years later? Give him a warning and move on.

#1 - h0ps is better than 99.7% of the people on both servers
#2 - h0ps has been accused of cheating in the past yes, he let me take over his pc a while back and look. I search for almost any and everything known as a cheat.

of course it's cheating if you give away the enemy location which wouldn't be known playing the game. it's like having someone spec a duel and tell one player where the other is ...

chat is good, but since it's not often used, it would be right to say you are using it before someone wants to play a team match

ex, i'm not defending 2dum... 2dum sucks at quake, and if you want to smash him into the ground, why don't you do it like a normal person

the whole problem here is that you don't realize that what you did is a total dick move, and ruins the game

want us to just believe that 2dum was the only position you gave away? you don't have that kind of credibility

As has been stated by others, the use of vent to give enemy position in pubs was well known in the ra2 community. No one really cared, and it made a team win of some random dudes over a clan in a pub match that much sweeter when you knew they were on vent. It's not really that much of an advantage in a random pick up match, especially if there are more then 5v5 on a team. If it was to happen in a clan ladder match or tournament, then that would be cheating, no doubt. However, with match settings preventing that for the most part, I don't think it was an issue.

While I wouldn't consider what Ex and hops did as cheating, it definitely was extreme griefing, trolling, or whatever you want to call it. So if there was to be some type of administrative action, I think it would reflect what would normally be done to someone griefing/trolling at that kind of level. What would happen to a player that speced in DM and called out health/location of a player for a map cycle? Or a player who jumped in a tdm match and killed his teammates over and over. It might be at that kind of level.

In any case, while Rick is right about all kinds of crazy talk and trolling + ghosting going on in ra2 for years, most of the popular ra2 servers ran with very little admin involvement as far as banning players for behavior. Contrast that with more administered servers like ACME and you'll see that these types of actions might not be tolerated on a server with active admin involvement.

I'm just happy to see decently full ra2 servers now and again with fun matches. I can't really hope for more than that after this long. I don't think a heavy admin response is needed in this case so we don't chase away ra2 completely. But seriously guys, you can't just go throw it in everyone's face because it is considered a dick move, even if it was common practice/knowledge in ra2.

Well don't worry, I'm not doing it anymore, neither is hops. I notice some people are against it, some are for it, most don't give a shit either way. But in the interest of not having the whining sector fly off the handle about this, we aren't doing it anymore. Better?

What's funny is I end up just shooting the breeze on vent more than using it specifically in-game. Of course that might be due to push-to-talk as well (necessary with my mic).

TBH I'd be somewhat against talking with most of you though. No offense, but I feel the nerd-level is high in here and there's only so much overly-nasally voices I can handle.

if you know your teammate and both of you are good enough to have mutually-enhancing chemistry, then the vast majority of the applicable uses for vent are already covered. it still has it's occasional uses no matter what though.. dependent on the players involved, both teammates and opposition

i only experience this sort of chemistry with adren and ah!.. true awareness, good assumptions, and no babysitting. it sounds simple, which it is, but that's also why the lack there of can be frustrating.
