All this is, is a difference in opinion.  Mathematically speaking, you're right, as far as the intended result of 3D effect goes.  But if you think of things you see on a flat screen, in reality, they are all 2D.  They become 3D because of, in Quake 2's case, movement in height, width, and length.  However, those dimensions are artificial and only on a screen which is 2D, which is what I meant.

Anyway, no sense in getting your anal all bunched up.  This argument is silly.

It seems we're in violent agreement on the simulated 3D effect.  As far as the whole monitor issue goes, I was referring to the typical flat screen monitor most people use now.  There are other specialized monitors like the one you posted, which does have more than a 2D surface.

Anyway, glad to know you so strongly agree with my thoughts.    :bravo:

The screen is flat, hence 2D.

Our eyes are 2d so hence the entire world is in 2d.  Plus, before color photographs, the universe existed in black and white.   Before motion pictures everything with a series of single images that would go from one major pose to another.   :welcome:

Back to 2D Quake....

Needs work.  To make it more like contra/etc. you should only be able to aim at 45 degree angles (0, 45, 90 from facing direction), same with AI.

So throw on a pair of 3D glasses and it's 3D then.  Then it's a 3D game.  Based on what you're saying, someone with only one eye only sees the illusion of 3D, the universe is actuatly in 2D.

when someone calls q2 a 3d game, they are referring to being able to move in 3 dimensions through the game play / the POV of your simulated q2 character. It means that X, Y, and Z have values, and these values can change.

How is that wrong?
