I copied and pasted the above cfg commands exactly as you said and the game performance was vastly improved for me.  The graphics were a little lower, but not by much.

My computer is only about a year old with no game video card. 

In the old quake engine you had a command to change the sky.  (I like "sky black").
Are those commands available in the new engine?

I have big plans for skyboxes in the future so I wouldn't really recommend you get rid of them, because they'll be a big part of the experience. I'm adding crazy fractal skies and stuff never done before in games:

That will work.  I used to use black skies before I got my eyes fix because of the glare from the extra light.  Now I like it because it helps me pick off campers sitting on the top of buildings shooting at me.. (poser?  Is that u?)

Also,  we need a command that allows us to minimize the game to desktop with out logging out.  That would be REAL nice.

Earlier today a pleasant sight! Just as predicted our server was already on the top of the main server listing! A server comprised of all warsow HPB strangers enjoying some fun games, and who I didn't even need to invite! This is just with a few minor changes mind you. So I'm excited to see what will happen when true core wodx elements come through! 



Yesterday we've also enjoyed a giant simpsons map with fully furnished homer house without any lag issues! I've re-compressed and optimized it's giant pk3 and textures from 60mb down to only 12mb without any noticeable visual differences. I need to fix a couple shader problems to make it golden. Anyway, I was flying around on sonic and hook like crazy raining fire down below and it was impressively smooth! Weeeee

I figure I should give a little update why the hell it's taking so long for me to get this thing up and running 
For the last few weeks I've been putting the Warsow engine through it's paces and trying to assess its strengths and weaknesses. At the same time I've been doing the same with a few other updated quake3 engines, mainly ioQuake3 to see if they had more to offer. I've been relentlessly stalking their support channels on irc and talking to the creators to gather up as much info about the directions they are taking.
The results and info were quite interesting with the front runners being Warsow and ioQuake3, each with some unique features. So I've setup yet another server for ioQuake3 to do further testing on that. It has fast http downloads setup as well and the IP is: 66.225.232.197:28994 if anyone is interested. It's currently running a really basic version of the mod and to get started playing you'll need:

I  tried to run 1Oquake3 per your instructions, but I get this error  (see below) and it fails to load anything.

Hi Porkchop,
You need to install all files into the same directory:

Install q3 demo in it's own directory, then copy pak0.pk3 from demo's demoq3 directory int ioquake3's baseq3 directory.

Then you start the game with ioquake3.x86.exe instead of quake3.exe.
To connect in game type this in console:
/connect 66.225.232.197:28994

BTW you need a "/" in front of all your console commands when you type them in q3 unlike q2.
