It's weird that while we have people killing one another over a concept, others of us are free to contemplate the nuance level at which denigration of a particualar concept becomes acceptable.

(Or, perhaps likewise, the rejection of the idea that denigration of a concept warrants more than stern letters to the editor.)

Many people are far to sensitive today, all this political correctness pisses me off.
We are never going to all sit down and hold hands and sing kumbaya.
People are going to disagree, but as long as it does not get physical, it is not a big problem.
Some disagreement can be a good thing, it opens up dialog on different views on a subject.

Freedom of speech with limits, is not freedom of speech.
I struggle with the complete freedom of speech because of all the distasteful stuff can happen, but I know its just expression and I can respectfully disagree.

I know that nothing is always black and white, that they're always shades of grey, but for the most part we are to sensitive today.

A bunch of crazy people start burning shit and killing people, and all of the sudden that kind of behavior convinces some people (people like jdolan) to have more respect or consideration for those crazy peoples opinions and wishes? I've got news for you, that isn't "respect" at all, that's called "fear".

And as quadz pointed out, Islam is nothing more than an idea. If Islamic believers want to get upset about my use of phrases like "DEATH TO ISLAM", they should realize that "DEATH TO AMERICA" is just as upsetting to me. Perhaps the phrase "DEATH TO ISLAM" to them equates to "let's kill all Muslims!" Perhaps the phrase "DEATH TO AMERICA" to me equates to "Let's kill all Americans!" Tit for tat. It's controversial. It's supposed to be. It's a 3-word protest. The Declaration of Independence penned at the founding of our nation was a protest. Our entire legislative system is a protest for and against laws. Our judicial system is a protest for the plaintiff and against the defendant. Protest is as inherently American as the American Flag itself. This is why "freedom of speech" was made the First Amendment, because it is the most important amendment above ALL others, and without it, our "free country" is no longer "free" at all.

And the reason for my protest? It's simple.

#1, I am an American. As an American, I believe that all people should have the right to individually accept or deny the validity of any religion. No single religion should be given more consideration than another. I don't care how many conservative republicans want to claim that this nation is a "Christian nation", they are WRONG. This nation is a "FREE" nation, and it says so in the Constitution which they are elected to uphold.

#2, as an American, I believe that anyone who claims to follow a "religion of peace" and then uses that religion as an excuse to commit violent acts against other individuals are ethically WRONG, and I will protest it like an American. I will not KILL PEOPLE or damage someone elses property or steal someone elses property in protest. I will SPEAK my protest, just as the First Amendment gives me the right to do. I am not violating anyone elses rights by SPEAKING in protest. When others stop violating the inherent rights of others by using fear of violence to promote conformity, then I will no longer have a reason to protest.

#3. When the US Constitution is amended to include "all people have the right not to be offended", then perhaps I will change. This will never happen though. Because someone will always feel offended by a protest. In the United States of America, you have the right of "freedom of religion". There is no amendment, and there will never be an amendment, which states "citizens will observe the utmost respect for all religions at all times". In this country, you DO have the right to belong to a religious faction which supports violent acts against non-believers. However, when your little faction of whatever particular religion that may be is found to be actively playing a role in real acts of violence or things which alienate the rights of others, then your religious faction and it's involved members become CRIMINAL according to the laws of this country. This is the only thing I am protesting. I do not hate all Muslims and want them dead. I only hate the ones that alienate the rights of others and violate the law. Is that really so bad?

PS... someone should invite Sofiene to respond to this thread. It would be joyfully American to have a "protesting" opinion on this issue.

I'd say the only slight variance to be noted is that "Death to America" is different than "Death to Islam" because one is a country, which is an amalgam of peoples of many religions, and one is a specific religion, which involves multiple nations in the Arab world.  TBH I'm not sure what's worse.

What I do know is Sofiene does have it coming somewhat over the posts he's made in the past here.  Saying he demands respect for his Islamic beliefs and yet he hates Americans and feels that we should accept his spit in our face while respecting him simultaneously?  Yeah, he deserves to get his face shoved in a pile of shit for that one.  And the same for any other Muslim that thinks in this way.  It's a ridiculous mentality.  It's basically saying we should accept being shit on, and bend over backwards to try and make them feel better.  Fuck that.

political correctness is destroying the foundation of american culture. However, Let's look at this objectively.  Any privately owned entity can accept, deny, or ignore any sentiments posed by the supposed "offender". The owner will have to choose, based on their own personal biases which message they will condone or not.

Hence, Since the owner of this forum is neutral in almost all aspects, he would have to strike a balance to his needs. which is to risk losing % of members over critics % that disagrees with the message. on public property however, if an organizer holds a rally, if a counter protestor appears and more people hold the opposite view, they can be shouted down or asked to leave.

the group might even call an officer to state they are "Disturbing the peace" or some other effect. Most times the person Must leave even though they are practicing their first amendment right. This is just the facts. it's much better to protest away from the group (across the street) or to exercise the first amendment when there is no large groups of protestors.
