Likely forum upgrade soon (Fall, 2012)

Salutations,

We'll likely be upgrading the forum software soon.

We've been inundated with spammers signing up to the forum lately; often more than 50 per day I need to wade through and delete, while hopefully not rejecting any legit sign-ups.

The later forum software versions support plug-ins that, with a little customization, can auto-reject the majority of the spammers, and make the ones that aren't auto-detected still easy to distinguish from legit registrations by the admin.  (I deal with this on other websites and it's worked really well.)

When the forum upgrade happens, it will initially probably revert to being bare-bones (no shoutbox, no "quake sites & friends" links at the top, etc.)  I'll need to hack the various customizations back in afterward.

Anyway, just a heads up...

But seriously, hope this registration upgrade helps. I've noticed all the umpt-eleven-million new names listed on the top of the boards by "Latest Member". Figured whoever was in charge of verifying the accounts was about ready to jump off a fucking high rise building.

No, all the existing accounts and content should be preserved.

I'll probably have to redo some of the funky custom permissions settings for the Entropy and Smack Talk boards; that sort of thing.

That's not part of the forum, so it can be changed whenever.

If anyone wants to submit gameplay videos in *.swf format, I kinda think it would be fun to have a whole bunch of videos, and the home page would just pick one randomly.

That sequence should be preserved forever.  A spot in the rotation of screen shots, though, would be no insult in my opinion.

Its cool to see Tastyspleen up and still running after all these years, even if I don't play anymore. Kind of miss this place.
Perhaps when I eventually have kids, I'll have them on here rail splattering all your faces.
