Re: Not sure how stable OSP is as railz crashes repeatedly - The only known bug we have experienced with OSP is random crashes with certain maps, in the early days of TS using OSP we had to check each map to make sure it didnt cause a crash, same would have to be done here, once the map or maps are slected it is a simple matter to load them and see if it crashes. If railz is crashing at or right after map changes it is most likely that bug. To my knowledge the Tournay servers have been solid as a rock once we cleaned out maps that go BOOM.

Actually if you read, we have gotten complaints about playing Q2DM18.

It's your perogative if you would like to lose interest and not play.

we could run the OSP..but I don't see any real need for it if we will be doing everything under one map, the extra features it has shouldn't be necessary, but I'll look into it.  We may just run it for the hell of it.

i read this whole thread, and I don't see much dislike for that map.. i seen a lot of encouragement..
and plastik, i'm not the only one catching this vibe.. you seem to be discouraging a lot of people wanting to commit to this.  well whatever, if it's a success, so be it, but if it fails.. don't be too shocked.  Good luck.

somehow, I think this has more to do with a certain someone, than the map.

I don't see how a map could change the game completely..why play the same old maps?  If it's for knowledge of the areas of the map, this is not good enough reason alone..

New tourney, new maps.

I would hope people would still want to play though, and like I said, these are not written in stone..I just wanted to get the ball rolling on this.

So please, all that would like a certain map, please speak up now, that is all that is left to be decided for the most part.

Quake 2 being 9 years old now (yes, it came out in 1997), I seriously doubt there are any "new" maps, that few people know.  And undoubtedly, if we try to use a map that we think is relatively unknown, someone WILL know it, or a group of players will, and thus have a big advantage.  That's why I say, use a DM1-DM8 map.  DM1 will certainly have some advantages, but not to the extent people are running around LOST, with only a blaster, looking for a capable weapon.  Like I said in an earlier post, I'd be highly surprised, if anybody that entered this tourney, could spawn anywhere on any of the DM1-DM8 maps, and not know exactly how to get to any weapon they wanted.

I don't think learning a new map should be an integral part to this tourney.  In fact, I think we should have a couple polls, as that's an easy/quick way to "say your piece", in regards to a couple things.

One poll should be, Do you plan to participate in the FFA tourney.  Another question should be, Do you prefer the "Stamina" approach, one map, very high frag limit, or the "Tiered" approach, having multiple elimination rounds, then a final FFA match of the best from those eliminations.  And another question, important as well, Do you prefer to chose an obscure, presumably unknown map or maps, or maps that are relatively known, like DM1-DM8.

And if it's possible to do this, monitor IP's of poll participants (Console would have to do this), to ensure people aren't logging into alternate account names and voting twice, etc.

thanks punk_fas, good input.  My thoughts were that it would be refreshing to play a map other than all the Q2DM* maps, it seems that every single tourney plays them.  Just my opinion.  But I will try to make sure that everyone knows the maps beforehand, in advance, so they can also have a chance to study them.  Like I keep on saying, if everyone decides they want d2dm1-8 or 18 then so be it.

NOTE TO EVERYONE:

I HAVE PLACED EMPHASIS ON BIGGER MAPS DUE TO SMALLER MAPS MIGHT BECOME CROWDED.

ALSO, NOT ALL OF THESE SETTINGS OF THE TOURNEY WILL BE TO EVERYONES LIKING, BUT I AM DOING MY BEST TO MAKE IT TO THE LIKING OF THE MAJORITY.  IF A SETTING IS SET, THEN IT IS NOT BECAUSE OF MY WISHES, BUT BECAUSE OF THOSE WHO HAVE VOTED (DO NOT BLAME ME).  I HAVE INITIATED 2 VOTING VENUES FOR EVERYONE TO DECIDE THE LAST 2 MAIN THINGS:

1) MAP

2) 1 GAME OF 500 FRAGS, OR 2+ GAMES OF 250 FRAGS

one last thing, we need a date where everyone can participate, and this will maybe be more difficult than it seems, because the other tourneys already have enough trouble getting 1vs1 or 2vs2 or TDM tourney players on at the same time.  I'm thinking a saturday, when most people have free time, and most might not have work to go to.  So please post when you are going to be able to be available to participate, and I will try to work out a date that everyone can play on.

would u feel better if i add q2dm1-8?  i already have 3 of those up for voting..I've already gotten complaints about the Q2DM18, saying its not a good map at all, BUT I also had some people bitching at me for not putting them up as an option, so I did, sorry for that, had to .  But I don't want to limit the tourney to just q2dm maps, I'm looking for more than just the same old regular maps.  It may prove to be an interesting and fun experience.

NOTE: so far in the voting, it seems like we will have only one map where all the 500 frags will take place.
