Tasty 500: FFA Tourney

Simple.  First person to reach 1000 frags, WINS.  This not only tests the skills of a player, but also their stamina/endurance.  You can't leave and come back and expect to have your score back, you must stay there the entire time until you win, or someone else wins, otherwise you must start from 0 score again.  I'm not sure if there will be any prizes yet, but I would like to try and offer some if I can work something out.  Anyone reading this, please let me know if you are seriously interested, because this tourney will NOT be for the faint of heart.  We will need atleast 20+ players to signup before we can even go into planning, since the details and stipulations of the maps/weapons will be decided upon by YOU, the players...not the Admins.  Think of it as a true republic.  So you in or not?

Things to decide:

MAP
WEAPONS
TIME
TOURNEY NAME

The time is crucial, because we need a time when all the players who are to join to be able to stay on for a minimum of 4 hours.  It may not take that much time, but we don't want 90% of the players leaving, making the tourney basicly die in a second.  The timing must work out for everyone, or it will not work at all.

this is a nice idea,  and id love to participate.

I think this will be right up Bloods alley,  In a 2 hour run with just me and him he racked up well over 200 frags.
If there was a superlative for the most endurance I would have to say him,  but ya never know.

sounds like fun.

i'd be interested.  i think it is a great idea.

We could see if console could offer a server to do it on.  It would take a high amount of clients connected at one time.  In fact, that alone would make me enjoy it less, i hate crowded servers.  I'd offer my hosted server, but it only allows 12 clients.

i'd prefer dm1 i suppose, but would go for any map, and any set up really, railz or dm.  If it were railz, i'd suggest spawning with rail.  i'd even suggest a wod rail like the version i run.  You should experience shooting people through walls sometime if you are a rail fan.  Brings a whole new side to the game and it has even taught me player location better then before which wasnt too bad.

Anyways, im game for it.  Me personally, i would need it on a evening.  i'd suggest a weekend so all can be involved.  A Saturday night.

im personally not game for it at all, one because I for the most part despise free for all, well despise is a strong word, perhaps more so dislike, plus i also hate crowded servers, vanilla = torture for me.. its a good idea though, but jesus 1000 frags :O

I realize that alot of people don't like 1vs1, so that is why they do not signup for the tourneys here, so hopefully some will come out of the woodwork, and see a game they can enjoy.

and yes reflex, we need serious people only, that are willing to see it through, even if it doesnt seem like their gonna win. 

I would say that anyone could join the tourney even while it is in progress, but for now I want to worry about the minimal amount of players required to make it a fun and hearty game (i say 20 because im sure 1 or 2 with have to get interrupted and leave the game). 

It would be neat to see the weapons from all the mods on one server, just to see how everyone fairs.  I would prefer it to be rail only (WOD like is fine), but thats not up to me, whatever you guys decide is fine with me.  As soon as I see enough people take interest, I will initiate the voting processes.  and we are gonna need one HUGE map   Hell, I bet we could even mod pygmy to suit our needs.  I'd also prefer a good map that no one has played before (not one from tastyspleen) if anyone could do some searching..

That's a good idea but there's no way I can stay connected 1000 frags straight. With a good average of FPH it would still take around 2-3h. Way too long.

i can get 20+frags per minute or so on average, sometimes less or more.  if the tourney were to be 500 frags, I could easily frag this tourney out in less than a half an hour, and 1-1/2 hour max.  The whole point is stamina.  you will only START to begin to wear down at 500 frags, but after 500, we should definately see how peoples skill fair.  we can change it to 500 if everyone agrees so, or maybe inbetween somewhere ..700 maybe?  like I said, we can vote on everything once we have enough people interested and serious enough to play it through.

Why not have multiple maps, maybe first to 100 frags per map, say 5 maps or something?  Or maybe even do q2dm1-dm8, or at least some of the more preferred maps, since that's classic DM/FFA right there, I think in most people's view, and everybody knows where the weapons are on those maps, so no real advantages to be had there for anybody.  This would encourage people to stick around more till the end, instead of finding themselves way behind in the 1000 frag race, and just spawning on a pad and sitting there, or disconnecting completely.

We'll have to decide if BFG and/or Quad will be activated too, since these are both offensive power houses, and will easily unbalance things to people with Quad timers, etc.  Or have everybody using BFG exclusively, which I think will probably get old quick, maybe that's just me.

Also, perhaps have ref's monitoring things, and not allowing spawn campers, weapon campers, etc, effectively freezing someone from actually getting to a weapon and getting frags.

multiple maps sounds nice...BUT..we will probably have to play more than 5 unless one person frags out all 5 of them continously...AND we will have to have some way of keeping track of everyones score after the maps change, unless you can keep it from rolling back to 0.

this is good healthy discussion/debate, keep it coming people!

anyone give a crap about prizes?  I figure maybe keep this w/o prizes, see how it goes, and if it is successful, we could possible do it again sometime w/ prizes.
