Howdy folks,

We have an RA2 server up now, at tastyspleen.net:27915

You can download all the maps in one .zip file here:

We're still tuning the config on the server, so if you have any config suggestions, please post.

Update: "vote map" and "vote kick" appear to be working now. These vote options are implemented through q2admin, and "vote map" is not smart enough to give you a list of maps. However, it's just ra2map1 through ra2map28, so not hard to remember.

Very fun.

RA2 is a "last man standing" kind of 1v1 or team vs team matchup. Each player starts will all weapons (no bfg) and armor. There are no items to pickup and the matches are quick. It is a good game for playing a quick round.

RA2 is awesome. Hal's ra2 server has been down for about a month, so I'm glad to see this server up. Thanks!

i have never tried it. Maybe now is my time.

i'm a slow moving health/armor whore though, so i doubt i will last very long.

I'm sure I'll be checking this out, sounds cool. And as far as no self-damage, I'm not too keen on that, it'll become a rocket jumping bonanza, and then it's just get close to somebody, aim at the ground, RJ, repeat, win.

I agree with Punk. I think it is unnatural to be Rjing around everywhere. If the decision is made to allow this, then at least have it remove armor.

Currently it's using the defaults, but it looks like I can enable voting on these specific parameters. Here are the possibilities:

healthprotect: <0/1/2>; // 0 = hurt everyone | 1 = don't hurt self or team | 2 = hurt self, but not team (default = 1)
armorprotect: <0/1/2>;  // 0 = hurt everyone | 1 = don't hurt self or team | 2 = hurt self, but not team (default = 2)

The current settings are how I remeber ra2 from years ago when I last played: rocket jumping doesn't eat your health, but it does take away your armor. So it's kind of funky, you can pull out the rocket jumps with impunity, only after you've been in battle long enough to have lost your armor anyway. (Or you can just trade your armor for rocket jumps early on if you prefer.)

But it looks like voting can be enabled for these options, so I'll give that a try...

Er..

One thing I've noticed in the logs, is it looks like folks are connecting and playing some 1v1 matches on the pickup maps. Which is of course fine, but I wanted to mention, If you create your own team, instead of a pickup team, there are several smaller arenas on each map designed for 1v1 playing. (There's also a way to join an individual person's team, for some of the arenas that support 2v2, etc.)

So if you're new to ra2 and you've only tried the pickup maps so far, remember to give the smaller arenas a try by creating your own team.
