It seems to me that you're not interested in ease of use at all, or else you wouldn't be using Linux.

try jdolan's APRQ2 build. you could probably get support for it here, as he frequents this forum and our irc channels.

I think this is it:

http://quake2world.net/files/quake2-quake2world.net-x86_64.tar.gz

GNU/Linux 64 bit

Your other option is probably quetoo, by the same guy:

HTTP support is present in AprQ2, however I think my build doesn't quite have the latest and greatest R1Q2 protocol 35 support, and so that's why it's not working. R1CH stopped posting his p35 spec updated to his forum a while back, meaning that I have to parse through his code to try to find the differences. I haven't sat down and done that yet.

-- Edit

I misspoke. Turns out, the only reason HTTP downloads weren't working is because I had compiled the build without -DUSE_CURL  :ubershock: I'm actually re-uploading new Mac and Linux builds right now. They should be available at the same URLs in just a few minutes. Cheers.

ill take the troll bate...

you have no idea how unproductive you are on a windows system until you actually sit down and do work on a linux system :) its so much easier to do so many things in linux... simple example, disable network card:

linux: ifconfig eth0 down
OR: ifdown eth0

windows: netsh interface set interface "local area connection" disabled

or... what if you want to view a text file with 4 million lines? notepad freezes for five minutes apon opening a file like that and windows loads the ENTIRE thing into ram... use "less" in linux and bam, page by page cashed not the entire file, instant load times and display :)

want to batch kill some hung firefox windows? you could go ctrl+shift+esc and right click, kill process on each one in windows... or just killall -9 firefox in linux lol

if you really want to be anal about it, even the basic commands from a shell are shorter and easier to use in linux... ls vs dir, cp vs copy, mv vs move, vi vs edit, cat vs type, mtr vs pathping

AND! if you want to be a total noob about it... most linux UI programs are easier for idiots cause everyone is used to windows and they won't make the switch if it isn't simple and intuitive

is of use is really dependent on the users preference..

Some likes unixlike system others windows.

However for desktop use I think a huge majority of the PC users prefer windows.

I have no idea if or how well R1Q2 builds and runs on Linux. It doesn't build on OS X, I can tell you that much. Altho I bet I could get it working on Mac in a weekend.

I was talking about my Quake2 ports for Mac and Linux, which are based on AprQ2:

http://jdolan.dyndns.org/trac/wiki/Quake2

These are binary packages that you can just download and run (even on Linux, as long as you're on Ubuntu 12.04 or something comparable). They use the same build / packaging system that I created for Quake2World.
