Is that the default sample rate?  Or do I need to change it somehow.  I'm only familiar with the adjustable dpi setting.

To Lemonzest.......I bought a Logi MX518 and immediately all my config/autoexec settings were wrong. I don't know how you can play with 1000 dpi cause its waaayyy too sensitive. Gives you motion sickness just to turn direction. I wanted the low profile Razor but they were out of stock. The Logi is too plump in your hand (do these guys game at all?) and its too easy to hit the sens buttons on top by mistake and wonder why your aim is way off suddenly. Otherwise the technical aspect of it is good....it is very smooth. I'm still trying to get the best yaw and pitch settings to jive with the mouse. Also the middle scroll wheel is a bit too hard to click - I use that for jumping (old 3-button mouse technique).

I have spent quite a bit of time trying to get the settings right for the MX518.  Seems like every day I'm playing with a totally different sensitivity.  Sens is affected by the 3 settings on the mouse, windows control panel mouse sens, the sensitivity setting in the mouse software, and by the quake 2 sens, so there's a lot to tweak.  Throw in the m_pitch, m_yaw, etc. commands and its getting pretty rediculous.  You can set the on-mouse sens switching buttons off, which I have done.  Right now I'm using 1200 dpi for no particular reason.

Anyway the point is its all a pain in the ass.  Thinking about trying a ms explorer, since I kind of liked my old ms scroll mouse optical.

Ok, I am now becoming tastyspleen's resident mouse expert.  Tonight I spent another $50 on Microsoft's Laser 6000.  So far I am very happy with it.  The software just modified my control panel mouse window, so there are no 3rd party software or on-mouse sensitivity adjustments to screw up, thus eliminating two of my variable setting annoyances.  The mouse is much lighter than the mx518, which I also love.  It also looks cool, isn't slanted to one side, and has 2 side buttons for my armor and weapon timers.  This is definitely the mouse I should have bought in the first place.

For those keeping track of my finances thats:

Quake 2 $10
MS scroll optical $20
Logitech MX 518 $50
MS Laser 6000    $50
Having the right mouse to play an 8-year old game that I still suck at anyway: Priceless.

At this point, I'm saying:
MS 6000 Laser > Logi MX518 by far.

i have a wheelmouse optical (probably already said it in this thread) and im lookin for a mouse thats small and light like this one but better. I cant flick this mouse fast without it skipping/spinning out of control. I'm thinkin bout going to lasers and getting a copperhead or a logi g5 (isn't a g6 available now?).. or i might want to stick with opticals and go with the diamondback or a microsoft intelli 3.0 or something similar. Someone also told me that the logi mx310 was good and it's not that expensive. I'm leaning towards the diamondback or copperhead though. Just gotta get more memory first.

Naym, I would recommend at least checking this one (MS laser 6000) out at best buy or something.  Circuit City said I could return it within 14 days if I didn't like it, even if it was already open.  As a former ms optical scroll user, this mouse feels very similar, but more accurate.

I don't like the scroll wheel as much as the ms optical scroll, and I kept hitting the right side button by accident so I had to disable it.  However, I still really like this mouse.  I think you will really be impressed if you check it out.  It is about the same weight as the ms optical scroll, i.e. very light.

I use a 6 dollar Logitech optical mouse... model M-BT58 , it's fine for playing q2. It replaced my logitech m-s48a ball mouse. Man, that thing had perfect shell shape. I had two of those, and broke the left click on one (I got mad at optica and threw my mouse into the wall)

Has anyone tried out this mouse yet?

http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/gaming/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=092&active_tab=overview

I loved the original MS optical mouse with side buttons... but it was to slow. This one has Razor technology plus the style of Microsoft Optical mice which I enjoy. Thinking of giving it a shot to replace my Razor Diamondback. Mostly because Razor won't put out *good* working driver for XP Pro x64. I also don't like the side button placement where I have to move my fingers backwards to hit a button, especially annoying to use your little finger or ring finger when trying to hit the right side buttons on the mouse.

I haven't tried it, but it looks like a winner. I've always thought MS mice were much more comfortable than
the so-called high-end gaming mice. Most of the logitech mice I've used gave me serious wrist pain after a few hours of play, and they are often a bit too small for the palm of my hand to rest on in a reasonable position. it's like they designed them for people with little girl hands.

I've used a MS Optical Wheel Mouse (in white and blue) long enough to wear out 4 of them, and while they aren't the most impressive thing out there, they work great for me and they're relatively cheap to replace.
the polling rate is reasonably decent and my accuracy isn't so good that a laser mouse would help me. when I miss, it's not often by a tiny bit.

I also don't need anything with more than 2 buttons and a clickable wheel, as all the side-button layouts I've ever tried were insanely uncomfortable to use/reach and not really all that useful anyways. I don't use timers, and other than +attack, all I have are my favorite weapon binds on the mouse. (RL,RG,SSG,CG)

This looks like a very nice/feasible upgrade though, due to it's similarity of design to my current favorite.
I'll shop for one and let you know how it works for me..
