i just purchased a G5. Still in the very early stages of getting used to it.
My previous mouse was a kensington something or other. About 800 dpi i think.
At this point, im working on my sensitivity in my config & coming to terms with the shape of the mouse.
It is definately very smooth feeling. Seems plenty accurate, just requires a different style of use then i am used to. i kind of laughed about the little weights that came with it. However unloaded it was noticeable front heavy, or rather, tail light. i just installed three 4.5g weights to the rear. It seems a touch heavy now, but better balanced. i have to go test it, but it actually feels much different.
it's a bit early, but i think i'd recommend it. i purchased it online at the link below.

i heard from alot of ppl the g5 is the one to get.. im using a microsoft wheel optical and have been for the past 3 years or so, and im about to get a new one too.. the g5 just looks too ugly for me though, and I dont think I want to jump to a laser mouse just yet. I either want a Microsoft Intellimouse 1.1a since i heard from a few pros that its a great gaming mouse even tho it wasn't made for gamers like the other new ones.. plus I've been using a microsoft for years and I'm sure I could adapt to this one easier. I think they're hard to find though so I might just spend the money on a razer diamondback.

Went to best buy tonight to see how the mice felt. Unfortunately the G5 display was missing and they wouldn't take another one out of the box, but it seemed ok through the plastic. MX518 seemed very nice. I'm going to buy one of them online since Best Buy had a pretty big markup $72 for G5 vs about $50 online.

However that is an old article, and the new laser sensors may be an improvement. I think 5 people have told me they love their MX510 or 518 so far. I have also always used an ms wheel mouse optical, but it sounds like there is a significant advantage with all of these newer models.

I love my razer Diamondback!
Killed six logitech mice (510-518). Mouse button 1 wears out very quickly for me. Some took a month to die others took a week!!
Razer still going strong after about 6 months now.

You wear out the left button on Logitecs too?
I use their trackball and I buy them 3 at a time because the left stops working after a while.Maybe they're just crap! Thought it was ME at fault all this time(still do
). But maybe its time to find another brand as close to this type as possible.

Well I bought the mx518 before I saw these last posts. Hopefully the mouse1 button lasts for awhile. I still need to tweak the sensitivity and find a dpi setting that works best for me, but so far it seems really nice. I just read too many complaints about the missing button the the G5 and about 5 players recommended the mx510 or 518.

I thought the 510's and the 518 were great while they lasted. I'm sure my heavy button pushing contributed to their early deaths.
Good luck with the mouse!

My dad has an mx510 or mx518. i found it more naturally comfortable then the G5.
im getting used to the G5 though. it is definately way more accurate then what i was using. Some of it is do to the 2000 dpi, some of it, probably more is due to how smooth it is. My kensington basically stuck to my mouse pad about like velcro making long distance/minor adjustments damn near impossible.
i paid about $50 for the G5 on the link i posted above, i thin the MX518 were around $30 or so on the same sight. Recieved it in three days.
i too hope this mouse will last a while. i dont think i am hard on them. i tend to go through keyboards much faster then meece. And all my stuff is now two years old, which is a long time for me.
i would recommend this mouse or any of the logitech mx series meece to people.

Well,
I
understood meeces!
As in,"Ah hates meeces to pieces!" some cartoon villan cat from an old third rate animation house(Harveytoons? They did the Caspar cartoons) used to shout that in some Tom n Jerry rip off that had some Bowery-Boy mouse named Herman as the hero.At least that's what I'm
guessing
he's refering to.
Gods,I'm old!
