Ok, here's the not-so-official Skyrim topic.
To late for me to post much, just got it started. :)

I always thought they had special deals with the publisher to allow them to compile those things so that they are available upon release.

Level 18. I've completed 24 quests (both main and side quests). Most of my enchanted weapons have lost their "juice". I really should learn how to recharge them and how to do blacksmith my weapons.    :lolsign:

Level 18. I've completed 24 quests (both main and side quests). Most of my enchanted weapons have lost their "juice". I really should learn how to recharge them and how to do blacksmith my weapons.    :lolsign:

You hilight the weapon in your inventory and you'll see a choice at the bottom left of the screen,T for Charge. Click that and you'll be offered a list of soulgems to use if you have some with souls...

Morrowind was a high bar to cross, and I agree Oblivion didn't do it,but Skyrim seems to have taken Morrowwind sense of size and scale to heart. They incorporated various good ideas from othe games and brought it into theirs, and I can barely scratch the surface of what can be done with the various crafting systems. I like how they set up a skill system based on Perk points, but I ponder how they let the stat system go. Strength is only Carrying Capacity,so every character hits as hard as every other, but perhaps not as well. One joy of Oblivion was to making my own magic items ,mainly filling Grand Soulgems with the Right Kind of Grand Soul like a Golden Saint in Morrowwind will do,and using it gets you items with constant effects,in my Orc Bruiser's case boosts to his strength(and how much he could carry),and to his armour. He also specialized in clerical sort of spells, heals and buffs. I have yet to get to the Magic Place where you learn a variety of spells, but I seem to be waving a sword with one hand, and spraying a stream of fire frost or electricity like a hose with the other hand. You can Duo Action the same spell in time effectively,so you can run around being Cyclops from the XMen Hose down them muthas....until they get in your face. They do have finishing moves al la Fall Out slo-mo,which are fun and a nice savour after a tough battle.

Hmmm. I had an epiphyny just now...maybe getting rid of the stat system was just to let the skills be the deciding point of a character's viability. And everyone would move and jump exactly the same height...kinda like Quake 2 and countless other...online multiplayer games. If they want to seriously commit to the franchise...I'd make a server based DeathMatch experience with bunches of maps and preset characters and skills. I saw MPlayer mentioned in some other thread...I attempted playing BattleSpire through it because they owned the exclusive rights to the venue. You can build your own character, and even design spells, which I did,it being a strength of the game. And I entered the server. Through Prime Time Mplayer with a full house playing everything else, all running that terrible bloatware MPlayer thingie of theirs, through a MODEM.....it looked like flashcards. Now if they were SMART,and I know they've listened to the fans and saw what people made mods for,and played the competition's games, and took the best from them for their latest game,so I'll assume they are,I would reccommend this:

A multiplayer DLC with deathmatch, some sort of preplanned Co op where you try to wrest an objective from either monsters or the opposing team. Horseracing! An arena where you bet on creatures fighting each other...I could go on. If the art assets were client side would such a graphics heavy game be feasable? Or would they go for a stripped down look if they went for multiplayer? Well...I'm off to play some more...kill things and take their toys. It's a definate Win so far....

i've got it, but i've never been an RPG player. after all the hype this has gotten, i figured i'd give it a go.

The last RPG I really got into was DungeonMaster circa 1989, so I'm a bit out of date.

But I purchsed Skyrim when I realized that it was now just about exactly 30 years (to the month) when my dad brought home our then spankin-new IBM PC, sporting 16KB RAM on the motherboard (with 48KB RAM expansion card), and a single-sided single-density 160KB floppy drive, and monochrome green screen.

Along with the new PC, he had brought home this game for it:

I was 10 years old a the time, and when I saw the cover artwork, I imagined the game might look like that.  And I'd formed a mental image where I'd be able to depart from the trail in that picture, and go exploring down the unseen cliffside and wander through the forest and mountains visible in the distance.

Of course, the actual game looked like this...

And while I did nevertheless enjoy the text adventure game, that idea in my head for what I thought the game was going to look like, stuck in my mind for years.

And so it turns out, precisely 30 years later....  Skyrim is essentially that game!

i've only literally just started playing, like maybe 40 minutes of gameplay worth but when does this get exciting? all i'm doing is bashing guards/bandits/shit in the face and thats bout it

I had fun just ignoring the initial quests, and striking out across the map in my own direction, at my own whim, dealing with whatever adversaries appeared, and raiding whichever dungeons I encountered.

I've eventually moved on to the first few quests, which do give you some extra options, such as dragon shouts.  But I'm still doing side quests and exploring whenever I feel like it. :D

Regards,

quadz

My first RPG (not counting text adventures, that was by Suspended for C64) was a Buck Rogers game.  Best RPG ever imho.  It let you really do what you wanted, you could attack your friends or enemys, could go where you wanted and you could also transfer your character to the next Buck Rogers game.

It's amazing those are just now being put in to the modern PC RPG's when it was a standard in the late 80's & early 90's.

The gameplay reminds me of a more refined GTA with a decent combat/magic system. With that being said, I have no clue why I've been entertained the past 20+ hours playing this game.  :miffed:  ;)

So far the only thing that irks me is the fact if you have multiple side quests queued, only the latest side quest you've accepted will display on your map and compass. It's a bit of a problem since some of the quest descriptions can be cryptic.

You hilight the weapon in your inventory and you'll see a choice at the bottom left of the screen,T for Charge. Click that and you'll be offered a list of soulgems to use if you have some with souls...

Helps. Thanks.

You have to select which ones you want the compass to point to from the Journal.
select/unselect main quests (mics quests act as one big main quest), but you can select or unselect individual misc quests if you have the main misc quest selected.

WOW lookin reading back that looks confusing as hell, but once you start clicking stuff in the journal you'll figure out what i meant. :)

Awesome responses. But before I post I need to remind everybody of one thing.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, take thought in what you post here.

"PLEASE NO SPOILERS !!!"

Now with that said, I never got to play Marrowind so I never had the experience that a few have mentioned about it in comparison to Oblivion. But I've played Oblivion for 3+ years (which I thought atleast graphically was ground breaking).

Skyrim to me has been almost everything I had hoped for. Compared to Oblivion its a 95% absolute hit for me and about 5% disappointment. So far I love it. I'll post a more thorough post on it when I can tear myself away. Mabey tonight or tomarrow.

i've got it, but i've never been an RPG player. after all the hype this has gotten, i figured i'd give it a go. i've only literally just started playing, like maybe 40 minutes of gameplay worth but when does this get exciting? all i'm doing is bashing guards/bandits/shit in the face and thats bout it

40 minutes? LOL. Thats just enough time in this game to get your feet outside. :)
Give it a bit and run a couple of quests. Take in the scenery, just travil about. you'll be oohh and aaww soon enough. :)
