I wouldn't say they "hide" anything....but everything else is pretty much right
also paril i disagree with your views on different aspect ratios relating to fov... but i dont feel like arguing with you right now about it
Quotealso paril i disagree with your views on different aspect ratios relating to fov... but i dont feel like arguing with you right now about itThere isn't anything "view"-related about it. Take a screenshot at 4:3 with your FOV, then take one at 10:16. You can see the same amount on the left and right and the forward distance still remains, you're just chopped off on the top and bottom essentially. In order to maintain the same view as before (ie you can see >= the same view as your lower aspect ratio) you'd have to increase the FOV (of course this would indeed change your perception of the world though, as per the rest of my post).-P
I play with a higher fov (120) because it lets me see more of the map, which I think improves my movement since it allows for me to judge distance better. I think though playing with a lower fov would be better for railgun (esp for pixel shots). A higher fov for chaingun I think works out better, since that weapon's spray pattern is sorta big and not that precise, and the less distance you have to travel to keep your lead on a target is a plus. All of this could be avoid though if one of the popular Q2 clients had a zoom feature. Zoom alias doesn't work too well with the chat flood protection, I'd say. I like to spam on the zoom command in other games.
I have always been under the impression that chaingun is most affected by fov out of all the weapons. As in... a lower fov is easier than a high one. The spray pattern is sort of big and not that precise, yes... but nonetheless, aren't the most bullets connecting when you hold the crosshair as close to the center of the skin as possible(assuming distance is constant)? It is just very hard for me to believe that tracking your opponent(staying as close to the center as possible while both of you are moving) with cg is more tough with a visibly larger target. Pretty sure it's as simple as that, but maybe I'm missing something How large is your monitor, barton?
Also.. what does your zoom alias have to do with chat flood protection? I can use mine as much as I want... nothing like that ever happens I spam it a lot. sometimes I zoom in just to get a better view of someone getting getting nailed by a prediction rocket
