Really nice read reflex, and thanks rogal, you're me hero man :D

Best clan:

SX - SX is definitely the most commemorable clan of 2005.  They made the change from newb to strategists in a short period of time, and in doing so became a more than decent clan.

Best server: Tourney1,2,3,4
They are really some great servers, i ping around 200 on all of them which is great for me. With so many servers gone now it's really nice to have these servers around. Ever since proxima and frag palace went down, and then even assassins, its been hard to find a place to play with a decent ping until in early 2005 i came across these servers. (only lostourminds back then)

Best Tournament:
1st, even though i was overseas anc couldnt make my 3rd match :(

Best Thread:
I forget the name.. the one where fnshow was talking shit.. haha it was hilarious.

Best Newcomer:
IDK

My Best Moment: Meeting some more than cool people that could also play.
2nd: hhhmmmm... beating dinsum 6-5 on dm1.
3rd: coming back on damiah and fragging him 6x after he had a 24 point lead.
4th: owning numerous 20 pingers with ease :D

MY WORST MOMENT: GETTING ACCUSED BY OVER A DOZEN PEOPLE OF WALLING DURING THE 3RD TOURNEY. That really got on my nerves  :-\ (This includes when today, digency IM'd me on AIM claiming to be deaf [maybe he is] and wanted my "wallhack". He said that it was the only way he could improve his game, because he can't hear sounds. He asked me around 3x and it aggrivated me.)
2nd: Lagging out  :-\
3rd: having to deal with alllllll the lamers.

LAMEST CHEATER: Wiley (destrukt) posing as Gads_on_Fire on TS servers.
2nd: Detect0r

Most skillful Players:
1st: flarez
2nd: naym
3rd: kris
4th: dinsum
(there are others, but i prefer to not list ones that have been speculated for perhaps cheating)

.:VERY BORING STORY OF HAUNTED'S Q2 CAREER LEADING INTO YEAR 2005

I started playing Q2 in the year of 1998 and have been an hpb for all these 8 years. I started out in just playing around at ffa servers as a total newb, and then joined h2o in 2000. After dealing with "tha show" for a month or 2 i got bored of h2o and the shit talking and moved on to the gx scene.  I soon joined <*}}}>< clan (FiSH) with Yoda and Au and we had a few successful clan matches with clans like dwx and h2o.  After another few months, i got bored with this clan as well and quit. Year 2001 was the first year i was really active in the gx scene.  Being among one of the only hpbs in this scene, (blood, acidburn, ditzu, and maybe a few others), and also being no good, I couldn't really compete with the likes of pyrex, neticz, focus, and rigg5. (naym and ditzu were COMPLETE NEWBS back then :D) During this time, and until 2004 i played under the name "pinged". After a year of getting slaughtered in gx, i discovered a server called azboks. I did jumpmod for 2 years (2002-2003) and eventually dominated the jump scene with the likes of wootwoot, saix, stalkerkoffie, nookie, etc. It was fun but I soon got bored of that as well and quit q2 for several months.  I came back in 2004 and got involved with the q2p community and I was amazed with it.  So many new people had gotten involved and so many newbs were now the most skillful players ever (naym and ditzu). During this time is when I finally started to compete with lpbs.  Playing jump mod for so long helped me easily master all the dm1 jumps and develop good movement.  Also during my time at q2p i came across a server that dael was at, lostourminds osp and joined up.  I learned about the whole deal with everyone preparing for the tourney and decided to participate. I was so excited to participate in a tourney it was the best idea that i've heard of in a long time in q2 and it was awesome to compete in.  It has been so awesome to watch people like reflex (as an example) totally change his gameplay and become more than decent players.  While being captivated by the tastyspleen coolness and kindness, the q2p community was dying, so i recently and comfortably made my home here :D. I have truly never been more interested or excited about q2 and find it more enjoyable everyday and it's all because of the tastyspleen community. HOOORAYYY! 2005 has proved to be the best q2 year yet, and 2006 looks like it'll be cool as well, considering that we now have a bunch of cool demos sections. Alright, i know that was boring but i was bored enough to write all that boring stuff. END.

ps. i <3 daelmun

Wha?  of course I have... quite a few times actually.  You have really good shots and you hit me quite often when we've played.. which admittedly hasn't been in a long time.

Anyways, I kinda feel bad for putting those remarks on - they're pretty judgemental and I haven't played you or interacted with you enough to really say them.  Plus they're some of the few negative comments in this thread.

I just hate the "I'm better than you" attitude that comes up so often in Quake (which I think encourages cheating) and I seemed to get that vibe from you from our experience and with what happened in the first tournament.  I don't know why I singled you out though... there are a million people I could put in those #2 and #3 spots...

I thought splitting the 1v1 tournaments up by skill brackets was a brilliant idea.  Naymlis was in a class by himself in the first tournament, and it really took some of the excitment out of it, knowing that he wasn't really going to be challenged.

In Tourney 3, I enjoyed watching demo's of Damiah, who really plays at a higher level.  I wish naym would have participated in this tournament, since he might have been able to beat the high-pinged euro.

The sport bracket was extremely competitive, and I had very close 3-set matches against brixstor, deft, waff twice, and almost against element and hindsight.  Those guys are all fierce competitors, and I respect every one of them.

I even found myself interested in the novice bracket, spectating players I didn't know on maps I'd never seen.  Despite the lower skill level, you can still feel the intensity that comes from two evenly matched people playing to win.  These matches were more entertaining than many of the random 1v1s that are played every day on the tourney servers.

Finally, Kobra really deserves a lot of credit for stepping up and seeing these tournaments through to completion after Laurelin's abrupt departure.  He was available to ref or find ref's at very late hours, and I thought he did an excellent job.

I want to thank him, and all the referees, Gator, Defiant!, Daelmun, Mya, and all the others.  Without you guys, tournaments like this wouldn't be possible.

Well, being new to this forum I figured I'd write a quick somethin somethin.  Being up here in Alaska I feel really lucky that one of the few servers I get under 200 ping happens to be Tastyspleen.  Over the last 9 years that I've been playing quake2, Tastyspleen has to be one of the best servers.  I remember starting out playing Wolfenstein 3D, then Doom, Doom2, Duke Nukem, Quake1, and then Quake2....well, I figured I'd always progress onto another game once a newer version came out.   For some strange reason this game just got under my skin and I've had the hardest time defending why I still play it to all my friends.  It wasn't until last night when I was reading a thread by another person on this forum that I figured out why it is I love it so much.  The physics of quake2 are so unique.  The double jumping allows you to move so fast in the game.  With all of these new games coming out attempting to make their physics as realistic as possible, they've limited how you can maneuver around the levels.  Sure, they are realistic, but the pace of the game is too slow.  Besides, I'd rather be able to double jump my way accross a level and make an insane leap to a ledge you couldn't normally make it to.  That's what makes quake2 so fun!  When I play Quake4 or Unreal Tournament they just don't seem to have the speed that Quake2 has.

Anyhow here I am still playing this game and playing many of you who I've seen off and on through the years on this great server.  I must admit I'm not exactly sure where the servers located or what kind of server specs consol or who ever runs it has.  I can't even imagine how much time the admins spend on keeping the server up and running, along with giving up valuable bandwidth so we can all play but I must say, THANK YOU!  It's so great to have such a great server that all of us can play on!

So thanks Admins, and thanks to all of you people that I play every night, it's been fun and I'm sure I'll be fraggin with you later!

As for 2006 I hope some who left for q4 will come back eventually, or people not playing much will start playing more:

- DaHanG for instance, always fun playing vs him cause he always has the most lucky frags ever, known him since zone as well, like the guy
- Damnation, lol, no comment, but never laugh so much as when I'm playing him (with the exception of gren)
- shake/dark/raija: some of the greatest guys in quake2
- naymlis, cause he was the best practicing different maps (aside form ptrip) with
- Doze, wont happen, but we played a lot before qcon and he is the kind of opponent I love, great sport and great player
- Rigg5, who knows if he ever will, but the most entertaining player (flarez aside) to watch in pickupgames
- Flarez, he is still playing, but not nearly as often as he should, always fun to play around with, be it 1v1 or teams
- Luci, also a fun opponent, uses more brains than aimwhoring, I like that, besides he doesn't like q2dm1 that much
- Nybar, funny guy, always something happening when he is around, well rounded player and a nice guy
- ni-ux and kyuss: known them since zone, always love to stir things up, and when ni-ux gets started, noone gets people as mad as him
- redi0: great guy
- bookshe1f/daized/kirs/acidrainn/deft/krez/manip/kaitech/groo for contribute to q2 in their own ways
- untouch, just for entertaiment on the whine/excuse front
- soso/gyn: q2players commenting maestros
- anyone from zone.com: shade, sand, carrot, nokio, skull, JEDI_General (haha), MadCobra, Nina or anyone else that I can't come up with right now.

People not needing to come back:
- detect0r
- wiley
- any of the ra2 cheaters

As for the community, I just hope and think q2 will stay alive for yet another year. I really hope that there will be another successfull tourney, be it 1v1 or teams (1v1 is the most exciting for me by far, but any kind of activity is nice). And hope that the demosection on tastyspleen becomes a success with loads of comments on the demos of any kind. Also that players that have come from ffa to tdm will keep improving, taking the next step. Really hope there will be less aliasers around, and that the few cheaters are either a lot more obvious or hardly cheating at all. Hope tastyspleen will become what q2players could have been, a place for every q2 player, not just the "elite" or hardcore players. A place where people new to the game can get help, and a place where good players can show off their knowledge in form of posts or demos or helping others out some. But still hope there will be some tension between some players as well :D And that r1q2 gets some of the nice features that q2a/nocheat has, so I can switch to it and load maps haxingly fast.

And personally, I hope I still can play some now and then and enjoy the game on and off servers. I don't play nearly as much as I used to, mostly due to long days at work but also because I'm not being very motivated at playing much recently. If anything I want do be more dedicated to 1v1 on different maps than just q2dm1 pickups so I don't have to learn all the maps all over again and get even better than I have been earlier. I got a shitload of stuff I to work on and things I can improve on, which is something I want to work on when I feel more motivated for putting the effort into the game. But it's so draining unless I'm not trying very hard, and then I might as well play q2dm1 ffa instead.

Yeah, I miss zone now too, it was ok when there was some activity in the tdm scene, but zone was the best place ever to just chill and mess around. Besides, I miss the really stupid people there, as well as the good guys. Crappy hosting and crappy +members aside, zone.com owned ;D

I don't worship the devil. Jesus is Lord, friend. He died for your sins. He will forgive you if you just ask.
