Reminiscence about the year that was...2005.

2005, the year many of us discovered tastyspleen.  Three tournaments were completed, the UDML ended in a fiery glory, clans were created, LAN's were hosted, alliances were formed and broken, etc. 

Now is the time to give recognition to the best and worst moments of 2005, involving the tastyspleen community and moments you had in Q2.  The below is based soley on my opinion.

Best Clan: =RGT= Randomly Grouped Talent.
Runner-up: {SX} Souljas eXtreme.

=RGT= won the UDML tournament held from mid-August to early November when they beat Devine (worst clan overall by the way).  Great teamwork all around, and they successfully won what could be the last organized 4vs4 tournament in Q2's history.  Great clan overall even though it was only a temporary one.

{SX} is second.  Amazed?  Shouldn't be.  You have to be impressed by their staying power.  I also like how Om3ga tries to get everyone to use their tags.  Such a simple concept that should be utilized more often.  They try to organize clan battles, they practice against each other, they have a site/forums, custom graphics, etc.  Well done.

Best Tournament: 3rd Edition.

Even though it was not the most successful out of the three, I really believe it was the most enjoyable one overall.  Hopefully the 4th tournament can combine the success of the 1st tournament along with the enjoyment of the 3rd one.

Best Server: vanilla.

vanilla contains everything from arguments over politics, to intense battles, to campers, to hackers, to mindless dialect...Enjoyable place, and I would not be here right now if it was not for that particular server.

The amount of posts and views D_C's thread attracted is enough reasoning for me to consider his thread the best of 2005.

Now surely you can find threads that have more quality than "i am the best", but that thread happened at the perfect time.  It was a time where the 1st tournament was about to begin, and everyone was predicting who would win.  banes was always a source of controversy, and this was no exception.

Best Newcomer: "..."

Maybe next year it will be easier to select the best newcomer to the tastyspleen community.  Just look at all of the people who joined the community in 2005, myself included.  It would be unfair to select just one after all of the contributions a lot of you made to the community.

My Best Moment: Becoming a referee/admin of the tastyspleen tournaments.
Second best: Being Team Captain of =RGT= and winning the UDML.
Third best: Performing above my expectations in the 3rd tournament.

Thanks to everyone for making 2005 such a memorable year.  It has been a pleasure to work with all of you on the tournaments.  Hopefully we can make 2006 as much as a success and help keep the last great remaining Q2 community alive.

Feel free to mention your favorite tastyspleen memories of 2005 too...There were certainly a lot of them.  Revive them at once!  : )

Best tastyspleen-clan:
1: BTF
2: SX

Hard to say, but think BTF have showed the best presence throughout the year. Not the best skillwise but they seem to be well liked in the community. People look up to them and they don't get all filled with high ideas about themselves, which is quite nice to see. A bit to triggerhappy when it comes to recruiting, but that's not my business.

SX: cause it's the only clan where new players are picking up tdm, and that's appreciated. The forumspamming aside they seem to behave pretty good as well.

Best things happening:
1: first tastyspleen tourney
2: #tastyspleen-live

the whole first tournament was great for me, when tastyspleeners were really wanting to learn how to play tdm and how many players improved a lot. And how the tourney ran, without too much delays and was easy and enjoyable to follow from the outside.

Out of ideas, so I'll go with my heart. #tastyspleen-live is just great, can keep track of stuff happening on servers without being present. Always fun scrolling up seeing what have happened on the tourneyserver while I was alseep. Big thanks to whoever is running uvula.

Best tournament:
1: 1st edition
2: 3rd edition

First edition was great in many ways, but mainly it was a simple setup and not too big. Some players who werent motivated were eliminated early on, so the players in the tourney were fairly dedicated all the way through.

Third edition I felt was trying to do too many things at once, and as an outsider in the tournament I really didn't feel it was very exciting cause the pro bracket (which I of course followed the most) was filled with inactive players, and it was extremely hard trying to figure out what bracket and where in the playofftree players were in the other 2 brackets. And the time-schedule was not very realisitc either, it lasted too long and players lost the motivation needed.

The first Tourney was great fun.  After I was quickly eliminated I still watched all the matches I could.
The third one was ok, but I felt the double elimination stretched it out so long that I had lost interest in it before even I was eleiminated.
(deadbeat slackers need to get their games scheduled and played)

Getting all the different servers was a creat thing too.  Thank God for Pygmy.  Now if we could only get more people to play on it

Thankyou Kobra for recognising SX as the runner up best clan, it's really cool that someone recognises us =), thankyou Daelmun for the acknowledgement too =)  I will do a few best / worst moments of my time here below.

Worst:
1 - The spamming days, my incessant forum posting got on peoples nerves but I didnt realise then so just carried on, sorry!
2 - Being persuaded to participate in the third tournament, then getting randomly picked to play Maddy, sheesh, im still a bad player now but then! , I was having problems with my mouse, i had a terrible configuration (which until recently has only been corrected with the help of daelmun), anyways, it was a terrible match lol, forgot the scores (intentionally)
and finally 3 - Having to meet some real ego-maniacs that spoil the game.. shame..

Best:
1 - Finding out about mIRC, it rules!
2 - The clan match's versus EoM (then MoD), and BTF, where SX won EoM and we had two match's against BTF and won 1 of them, fun games and our first proper clan match
3 - Discovering 1v1 and TDM and getting the proper config for it all, has helped me tons since I had ...

Top 5 players (in my opinion, in no order, not based on skill or anything, just personal liking I guess)
1 - Kobra =) All round kewl person
2 - Daelmun, helped me to re-do my config, has wrote lots of interesting and useful threads..
3 - Reflex, always there to play and luckily our match's are pretty close and fun, he's also a cool person in general
4 - Console.. the new servers, the humour on IRC, just a really kewl admin guy!
5 - Mya, always there to take the piss out of me on IRC and she's a nice person.. =)

Ahh dang it.. i cant go over 5.. well there lots of others I could mention too, but I wont to save it from going over 5 top players, only picking 3 would of been really difficult!

Best Threads:
1 - of course, whatcha look like, very entertaining..
2 - I quite like the "drink" thread (yes, one of my own, cos im cool 8-)), its factual as well as interesting
3 - All the stickied threads.. great stuff!

2: KobraKryptic ranting

Not sure if anyone has told you yet Kobra, but noone is really intrested in how sad sean and the rest of |D|devine are and what not. People have arguments and/or act like assholes all the time and they always will, but I've never seen anyone sit on a high horse carrying on as long as you do. I respect your dedication for the tourneys, but you have changed quite a bit how you act lately and now you seem really bitter only spreading your poisonous words about others whenever you have a chance. Cheer up, and move on.

It would have been all right if you just left it as "KobraKryptic ranting" like how I just left it as "Dealing with Devine".

It's weird how much our egos get tied up in this game.  I HATE big egos.  That being said I have a pretty big ego myself, blech.

So... 2005...

What a fantastic year for my Q2 experience!  This year has seen my q2 dreams come true!  I've always wanted to improve my skills and this year has seen unbridled opportunity for it.  The revival of team death match has made my heart sing!

Best Server:

1. Mutant - the gateway to bigger and better things from FFA
2. Tourney - such a necessary part of the family


Best Players (in no particular order):
Eyestrain - my partner and teacher of all things quake
Mya - delightful bundle of joy that sooths all our male egos
Pantaloons - such a merry soul!  Joyously fragging the night away
Laurelin - my rival, great maps, great sportsmanship, great fun!
Kong - such a fun guy to play tdm with
Tr3y - another great, challenging tdmer
max ping - max ping! a funfilled tastyspleener
Gator - the humble head of clan BTF geared towards having fun, excellent.
Kobra - ahh humble kobra, thanks for all you've done for us
Lucky/Rookie/manny - the three-headed monster of love.  Lucky was my q2 girlfriend, and the other two her protective brothers.  I'M NOT JOINING YOUR DAMN CLAN!
Naymlis - for being our best player he sure as hell has a great attitude
Elysium - I hate his aim, I envy his skill, I appreciate his kindness
Corpus - a friend from the oldschool ffa days
Chattanoo - another great oldschooler!  Many blissful late nights with this one
Dukie - OWIE!  Dukie is the glue that holds us together
Lamont - Another oldschooler that is a pleasure to be around
Quadz - thanks so much for your selfless work, quadz.... and the t-shirt
Rogal - a willing learner of tdm and great team mate!
Adam - unruffled good attitude and humble demeanor
Omega - ahh, little Omega... fun to have around
Banes??!! - well shit... even banes was fun to play with, if there weren't others distracting his attention..

Worst Players:
1. Funhouse aka parksward aka lilpiggy aka ummm... lots more...  This guy is like banes times 100.  He DOES have a nice side... but so difficult to find.
2. Bl00d - okay okay okay... we KNOW you're the greatest player ever...
3. Adrenal1ne - no ty? no gg?  You hate cheaters but you're the reason why people cheat.


Best Moments!

For me was the switch from ffa into team dm.  I never played before because I sucked too bad, but my skill improved on xquake and mage warehouse and was honed to a razor's edge on mutant with eyestrain.  Then I was ready to make the jump and what luck to have so many people make the jump with me!  Quake just got wayyyyyy more fun!!

1. Tourney 2nd edition - such fun to play 2s and almost go all the way
2. Almost beating naym on grom!
3. Playing with team tasty... we had some good matches, didn't we guys

Meeting everyone on Tastyspleen has been really awesome. (ie. one of my best moments of 2005) So many people have made me feel welcome and helped me discover the joys the tdm and mIRC.

These are the people that stick in my mind the most:

sean - introduced me to timers and gave me the alias for double jumping. He's also a fun guy to talk to. We're the <3 spammers!

Hmmm...well I guess I get no love here..sniff..sniff :p But all the players Ive met have a good side that I have seen @ one point or another...even banes and Toxicmonkey...although few and far between they were there.So Im not going to list all the good and bad best and worst.Just going to say its taken up many more hrs than I planned which meant it was a good year on tastyspleen.I will say thanks to the admins who worked hard doindg all the coding to make this place fun though! Kudos admins!

After being away from the scene 3+ years I was fortunate enough to run flat into this great community. On a constant basis you guys here never dissappoint.

I used to run around from server to server looking for people that I recognized for fun play and no maliscious attitude and I ran into it when I played my first FFA in a long time against the guy who posted above me.

But Gator doesn't get the only nod of my head whenever they logon. Of course there's teh boys: Omega, Adam, Reflex, Corn.
