I haven't played many other games online until here recently. I've started playing Deer Hunter 2005 Season online a good bit recently, and let me tell you, IT SUCKS ASS. There really is no "community" for it as far as I can tell. All of the servers listed in the GameSpy server database for it are each independently run and usually left alone with no active admin there to monitor anything. A lot of the players are these young little 12-15yr old fuck sticks that will initiate a vote to ban you over the stupidest damn non-issues. I was on a server the other day and I shot a spike buck (a one year old buck with only 1 point per antler which score 0 inches) and all I said was "ZEROOOOOOO!", then some other ass chimes in being a butthead and says "shut up". All I said in reply was "no u", and this other little pre-pube kid initiates a vote to ban me, and like a bunch of fucking idiots, enough other people vote yes.

A few days before that, I was on some other server with one other person and he tells me to disconnect and come back with an ATV. I didn't want to use an ATV or a horse because it's extra noise that spooks deer away. When I responded with a simple "no", he immediately calls a vote to ban me. Luckily it was just me and him on the server so I voted no (you need at least a 51% majority to pass a vote). When that didn't work, he disconnected, then reconnected and spawned right beside me with his ATV and started cutting circles around me to scare all the deer away from me.

Just yesterday I saw this dickhead using a hack to make him run faster and not have to reload (basically a timescale and infinite ammo cheat). He was on another server earlier trying to recruit someone into his stupid Deer Hunter clan. I got into it with him about him using a hack while being a tagged up member of a clan and how that goes against what clans are supposed to be about, good sportsmanship and fair play. He swore up and down that it wasn't it a hack, it was a "trainer" (basically a fancy word for "hack" that cheaters use because they don't want to call themselves what they really are). I told him that if he sucked so bad at a simple idiot-proof game like Deer Hunter 2005 that he needed anything to "train" him to do it, then he needed to be wearing a helmet and have someone cutting up his food for him.

THANK GOD we don't an over-abundance of little shithead kids like that around here. THANK GOD we have a place to go where we have admins that actually do their job and make sure shit like this doesn't happen around here.

Defiantly a plus to this community is its lack of immature kids spouting "FAIL" and "EPIC WIN" constantly.
And FaderJok as annoying as you might be at times, no offense, you got nothing on the moronic console gamers.

PQ has existed to support the existing community. The community will live on, and the files do have plenty of homes... but it's a hole and a shock. We'll strive to keep it around, and if that doesn't work we'll remember it until we are old geezers ranting about taxes being too high and the gov'ment paying people to make.

PQ was a main part of the community until all the hosted sites got shafted (sites that you can't get some things for).  Then (at least) it became an archive of a decade+ of Quake information.  PQ was the Q1+2+3 community.  I don't think GameSpy had forums when it formed (it might of) but the life blood was the Planet sites (PQ was the first planet site, basically the birth place of GameSpy).

Ironically, they Planet sites don't make anybody any $$, which is what's wanted, but the people who own them don't want to let the admin's run them like they used to be run when they WERE popular.

No matter what other games come out, no other franchise started a 3rd party company based on it's MP that's used today (QuakeSpy/GameSpy), no other franchise has a non-profit run yearly convention, no other franchise started a whole game network/file hosting site (Planet's & Fileplanet), no other franchise still has technology powering today's most popular games (CoD series & anything by Valve).

Yeah, ain't no love for Quake no more. Only us old school fans seem to give a damn about it. I was looking at a Yahoo featured news article last night about the evolution of game graphics, maybe someone else saw it too. It mentioned Pong and PacMan. It failed to mention Wolfenstein 3D for being the first 3D based game, but at least it did mention Doom. It went on through the late 90s, and OF COURSE failed to mention ANY of the Quake games, even though the Quake engines were the base for many of the best 3D shooters. Looks to me like if there aren't any new Quake titles in the future, us die hard fans will be the only thing keeping it from fading to black in the annals of time.
