I haven't seen the demo(at work), but assuming that this person IS cheating......I doubt walking/crouching around corners would fool someone who has taken the effort to fool AC.

You might also try that position with right-hand vs left-hand vs centered weapon. I think the weapon will offset but the viewpoint won't. I have not dug that deep into the code to know for sure. The bounding box definitely determines what is visible and what the player model will do. It's actually the BBox size that determines crouch action.

Another factor is who is moving and who is standing still. If you are coming around a corner the prediction will tell your stationary opponent about it before you can get visual on him.

Handedness will change the origin if your weapon fire, but not your view offset.  See G_ProjectSource in the game code.  It can have some impact on your ability to shoot out from behind corners, etc.  For example, a right-handed config will be able to fire from behind the right side of a wall before a centered or left-hand config can.

Also, re: prediction, no, that is incorrect.  Quake2 does not predict where other entities are or will be; it only predicts where *you* are in server time.  Your client is always operating behind server time due to the latency of your connection and because server frames last ~100ms.  Quake2 compensates for this by taking your current movement command at each frame and running it through the physics code locally, then drawing your view from where it *thinks* you'll be in accordance with the server's next frame.

Ever been shot in the back as you ducked around a corner, sure that you were clear of your enemy?  Well, as far as your client's prediction is concerned, you may have been -- but the server didn't think so   Other entities moving around in space on the server, plus constant variation (jitter) in your connection quality can lead to "prediction errors" like this.  You can try typing `cl_predict 0` at the console to see what it feels like to always be 100+ms behind the server.  This is how NetQuake was, btw.  QuakeWorld's big innovation was really client-side prediction.

Back to the demo at hand,  I think maybe if this is looked at from in eyes camera..  we might see q2d was going around the column to the left..  not crouched/stationary.  So bong actually saw him running even though 3rd person didn't.  Might give recamming a try next week.

hes not a bad player, but i dont think hes a hack... if he had music blasting crazy loud and had s_volume set to 0 like i do occasionally i could see SOME of his shots being a little suspcious... but, thats easy to chalk up to lucky guesses

you dont need a wallhack for prediction shots with no sound, youd be surprised how often a lucky guess can actually work out for ya lol you dont land shots unless you take em, take more you land more
