Xtife's Half- Assed Quake4 Review

i would like to express my opinions on quake4, which i have played for the last 2-3 days
since i got it for christmas so here i bring you. my half-assed review


Singleplayer:

This is where quake4 really shines, it has an awesome story. though i cant say that it stands up to half-life2 or even doom3
the visuals are just amazing, this is what doom3 should have looked like. its challanging too, for your first time through. you will no doubt find yourself dieing alot even on the easiest skill level. unfortunatly, the game a bit short, i burned right through it in 2-3 days. this seems to be an issue with alot of newer games these days. it does however, hint at a possible expansion at the end of the game

Multiplayer:

The multiplayer portion is... well, i think it could have used some work. i was really disapointed when they made it like quake3. now if i wanted to play quake3, id play quake3. but this is quake4. and imo, i think it should play like quake4 lol. just becuase quake3 was popular, does not mean its good. quake3 was a half-assed attemted at making a deathmatch only game. and imo, they failed. and it is stands to be one of id's worst games ever.

but still, i found it quite enjoyable. dispite it looking and playing alot like quake3. infact. i was pretty much owning on the servers i played in this morning i found it to be really balanced and smooth gameplay. and that is the only thing keeping it from getting a 0

Overall:

i found this it to be a really well-made sequal to quake2. and i highly suggest everyone try it if they havent yet
i probably would not have enjoyed half as much as i did if i didnt get this new video card for xmas aswell
my specs are 3ghz p4 1gb ddr400 ram and a geforce 6600 gt 256mb agp8x
if you dont have anything close to that, there is no doubt that it will run at turtle speed

thanks for the half-assed review, if they made it for mac osx i would probably buy it and try it - but since they don't, they (those at raven and id) can fuck right off...

a negative thing about Q4 for older pc users is the high requirements of the game.  If im not mistaken, the game requires 200-500MB ram, 5GB of HD space, and atleast a 2-3Ghz CPU.  of course, this is expected due to the fact that it is a high quality graphical game.  They would of probably sold more than twice the copies of it if these requirements were a bit lower.  but all in all, i expect it to be worth playing.

actually, computers with those specs should be pretty common these days
you guys just need to get off your asses and upgrade it doesnt cost all that much
