Laurelin, my position on the purpose of life is this:

The purpose of life is to create more life.

I believe this because:

1. Procreation (creating more life) is essential to the continuation of life. Without creating more life, life would end.

2. Procreation is consistent across the entire spectrum of living things, from a virus to a flea to a human to an elephant. We all procreate.

3. Life is encapsulated in a molecular structure which we call DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid). We need to procreate for this structure - life - to exist.

Thus my position: The purpose of life is to create more life.

As I've said previously, however, I understand that procreation is not the ONLY purpose of life. But it is the ultimate purpose.

I"m talking about your explanation not mine. You proposed the explanation, the burden of proof is on you. It's just easy to poke holes in yours, because it doesn't make sense..

And I don't need to come up with one, this is an old question. One major philosophy is you define your own explanation, based on your input and the processing of it. It was actually a major movement decades back. You can read about it in 100 great inventions of the last 100 years from time magazine If I recall correctly.

As for 'burden of proof', I never professed to have any proof of my opinion. I'm merely stating what I, personally, think is correct.

I'm happy for anyone to refute it.

Don't worry Reaper, I'm just as confused about the whole thing as anybody else. Probably the difference is that some people can see things as they really are whereas others tend to view things through rose-coloured (religious???) spectacles.
