Mod idea - Gun Game

akin to the new wager mode in black ops, I thought it could be fun in quake 2.

how it works:

winner is the person who gets a kill with every gun in the game, every time you get a kill you unlock the next weapon and keep spawning with whatever gun you are currently on until you unlock the next one. you can be knocked down a gun level by knifing, not sure how that would work in q2 though since in blops everyone has a knife and you dont need it out to use it.

Level 1: Blaster
Level 2: Shotgun
Level 3: Machinegun
Level 4: Super Shotgun
Level 5: Hyperblaster
Level 6: Chaingun
Level 7: Grenade
Level 8: Grenade Launcher
Level 9: Rocket Launcher
Level 10: Railgun
Level 11: BFG

Winner!

the games obviously dont last that long so it would/could be a Bo3 thing or something.


anyway just an idea, I wouldnt know where to start coding it mind.

My brother was telling me about this & I thought there was already a Q1/2/3 mod that did that.

But it seems the older, simple game mods are making a comeback.  Everything in Block Ops sounds like it was in Goldeneye too.  :)

Agreed.. reverse order is the first thing I thought of, for q2's weapon order anyway.

yeah I was going to suggest the possibility of making it reversed as well, making it more difficult to complete the later ones thus extending the game time a little and making it overall a bit more difficult.

I think it would be better without them, they take away from the use of the weapon.

no armor or health packs, maps are empty. perhaps starting health should be 101, or 110, or something like that so rail does not just one shot. I don't know, I guess if anyone took up the idea and started coding it could be debated upon.

You should have to work to finish the chain of guns. Not be given the easiest at the end so I suggest a switch in the order. :)

If it was 101 or 110, what if someone gets rocketed then another guy with cg / ssg gets an easy kill? Not the end of the world or anything lol but..... there would be plenty of "stolen" kills is what I'm saying. Honestly doesn't bother me.. but I'm just throwing that out there.

also, instead of having unlimited ammo (being that there are no items), you should start with x ammunition and if you run out without getting a kill, then you digress a weapon stage (to the weapon you had previously...)

What do you mean sigma? maybe you were thinking about cg with unlimited ammo? I think the actual reverse order would be pretty nice..

good questions, all relevant.

in blops, it's I think either 6 or 8 people max then the game starts once the required amount of people have joined up.(readied up in quake I guess)

as for the stolen kills, yeah I forgot about the random variables on q2 weapons with rocket launchers and in black ops, if someone get shot a couple of times then somebody finishes them off, thats just how it goes. frustrating but what can ya do :P

not sure about ammo thing, values would have to be tweaked. something like 10 shotgun shells for the SSG seems a bit too low, but seems just right for the normal shotgun if that makes any sense? so what im saying is, add more shells to make ssg seem fair then you have the problem of too many for normal shottys.

5 ssg shots(max 600 dmg) wouldn't be bad necessarily. In a 6-8 person ffa sounds almost about right actually... I'd even be down with 100 bullets for chain(maybe like 125 or something...) I don't think that would be too challenging and it would make the games last a few mins instead of 1. Of course a match could still end in 1 minute, but not everyone would be able to do it all the time if ammo wasn't restricted.

adam I think you'll re-think your stance w/ the 5 ssg shells thing man. In ffa that'll get you 5 kills all the time... and if there's no armor or health to grab then I think everyone should do fine.

a little too much ammo = just as abused as unlimited ammo

I guess you're right. It's just in Black Ops, ammo isn't an issue, you get a full clip + 3-4 reloads at least, but then I guess thats BECAUSE you have to reload.
