OSP Tourney Server and security
« on: November 08, 2010, 11:19:53 AM »
Hi everyone,

I'm currently running a r1q2 server for some friends on my dedicated linux server that is accessible via the internet. I'd now like to install the OSP Tourney mod because I need more control than vanilla Quake 2 offers. I found >this security warning though
>this security warning though (and I remember reading about it at bugtraq when it was first posted).

I'm aware of the suggested work-arounds in this documents but disabling voting would ruin the benefits of OSP of course. So my questions are:

1) Have the issues mentioned in that document been fixed in a later version of OSP?
2) If not, which alternatives to OSP would you recommend? (The Battleground mod was mentioned in that file - are there known security issues for this mod? What about the open source replacement version of OSP that is mentioned in that advisory - does it exist?)

Thanks for your time,

spirit

open tdm,  r1ch's answer to OSP.  Used on all the tourney servers round here.

Tons of kewl stuff too,  reseting all lifts at match start was my favorite!

http://tastyspleen.net/quake/downloads/mods/opentdm/

and probably a forum thread or 2 about it also,  either here or at r1ch's.

if you are starting with baseq2... keep in mind that osp battleground and otdm all are team death match mods, not free for all like baseq2... i do believe that there is an ffa version of opentdm called openffa or something like that :)

OpenFFA is mod developed by Skuller (q2pro server/client, GamerTV 4 q2) and is not ffa version of opentdm

Quote
OpenFFA is a simple free-for-all deathmatch mod for Quake 2, an open source replacement for ‘RegularDM’ mode of OSP Tourney. Currently in development, it features familiar scoreboard and HUD, voting system, configurable map rotation support, high scores logging, ‘proper’ in-eyes chasecam support. Besides that, OpenFFA fixes some gameplay bugs and annoyances original Quake 2 game library has.

BattleGround  http://tastyspleen.net/quake/downloads/mods/battleground/

Quote
Quake2 Battleground was written with a single purpose in mind: clan matches.
The mod is server-side only, and the server will enforce team skins, keep track
of team scores, and announce the winner at the end of a match.  And multi-round
matches are fully automated.  Just tell the server what maps will be played, and
it will do the rest!  Of course, if you don't run matches, or there are none
going on, you can swith to deathmatch mode from within the mod and still have
access to many of its optional enhancements.

Switch between match mode and standard id deathmatch.  If the mode is
   set to "match", the level will be restarted, players will be presented with
   the join menu, and players will not be able to touch weapons until a match
   is begun.  If it is set to "dm", the teamplay features of this mod will be
   disabled.  If it is set to "individual", the server will be switched to a
   mode similar to match mode, but without teams (i.e. a match-like FFA mode).
   If called with no arguments, the current battlemode will be printed.

// use "individual" in place of "dm" to start in individual match mode
sv mode dm // or vote mode dm (in game)

// Valid "dm" values are
//   0 (weapons do not stay when picked up)
//   1 (weapons stay)
sv dm 0
