I've been a lot of things through the years, but kind of fell into computers while I was working as a geologist for Chevron.  They needed someone to take the time to learn how to use the brand new Mac Plus and pass the info along to the rest of the staff.  Of course that evolved on through printer support, 286's with hard cards, unix support, unix sys admin, networking hardware, 386's, the Windows family, the Mac OS family, 486's, and so forth.  Before I new it, I wasn't turning logging data into isopack maps -- I was doing computer support full time!   :eyecrazy:  So I got myself into classes for NT workstation and server, and made the career switch permenant.

I still do a little bit of everything in the computer world, but generally in the workstation arena.  I'm as likely to be using Wise Package Studio to create scripted installations (or MSI) to be delivered via SMS to clients scattered across 16 states, as I am to be troubleshooting hardware or software problems on an end user's machine.  I prefer to be engineering solutions for larger problems to direct end user support, but it's all good.

I've toyed with the idea of getting involved with the tequila industry, because I find the product and the culture fascinating.  I have done a lot of stuff in support of several of the distillers so I'm somewhat hopeful.

Oh yeah and I still spend a fair amount of time parenting, even though she's finally in college.  When they leave the nest they always leave a few feathers behind.   ;)

I've done a lot of stuff through the years, but I won't go into it all. For the past five I've been working for the state legislature here in Texas, doing editing work on legislation and documents related to the legislature. I do a lot of freelance writing and editing on the side, mostly education-related stuff, usually in the field of standardized testing. That's really about all I can say about that due to confidentiality agreements (no, not kidding). I say "on the side," but in fact the freelance stuff  accounts for (in a good year) half my income.

My day job with the state allows me to play a lot of Q2. We are at the instant beck and call of the legislature, which basically means we sit around waiting for them to request a piece of legislation, a memorial resolution, a letter, a memo, etc. Think of a fireman sitting around the fire station, except instead of being all buff and having cool, gay-wet-dream or sorority-girl-wet-dream uniforms, people are kind of pasty, smoke a lot, and are poorly dressed (none of which applies to me, of course, except for the smoking ;). Also, we don't save a lot of lives or do anything even remotely heroic; other than that, it's JUST like guys sitting around a fire station, waiting for a call. That's why I have so much time to be on and off the server for 8 hours a day, in case some of you were wondering. (Also owing to the fact that I have, for the foreseeable future, given up on the great novel or screenplay idea as a way to pass the time at work...er..."work.")

Hey Lamont, instead of the tequila thing, may I recommend getting in to the marketing/production of sotol? It's a tequila-like liquor from a slightly different type of agave; in one of my frequent visits to the liquor store, the clerk suggested it, I bought some, and it's really good. Not so great as a margarita (probably only because it tastes different from tequila), but served straight up as a sipping drink, it's really good. I've found I also like it mixed with a touch of club soda and lime (lazy man's marg). Anyway, there's SO much tequila coming into this country already--wonder if it might be better to find another niche.

BTW--I did NOT edit or proofread this before posting, so no smartass remarks, you all!

Hey johnny, cool that you know about Sotol!  I don't know too many people outside the group of tequila afficianados (sp?) that I run around with who have even heard of Sotol.  I have a bottle of Hacienda de Chihuahua Reposado sitting about a foot from me (my computer rig is in my closet right next to my agave spirits collection).  I'm sure there's a good joke to be had about being 'in the closet' with tequila and a computer in San Francisco, but I'm too lazy right now to work it out.   ;D

I never even considered mixing it, because that aftertaste and aroma are so soft I just assumed they'd be swamped, but I may try something with club soda.  I have to confess I like the blanco and I love the repo, but I thought the anejo was a huge disappointment -- too sicky sweet and tastes like cough syrup.  I'm sure Sotol will never become as successful a mescal as tequila, but I hope it gains enough of a following to stick around.  I actually have a few friends who tried to get on board with Hacienda de Chihuahua, but they opted not to after surveying the industry.  Still, something to think about...

Thank's console  ;D - Ok ive had painkillers so its not hurting and its dressed proper now so its barely hurting, i can also type alot faster with my newly revised way of typing with this finger, so, what happened: in electronics class we're making prototypes of our project with cardboard and covering with the desired colour of sugar paper, well, I was using the scalpel and cutting board to cut out my final bit of sugar paper to cover it with, I used the ruler to cut it in a straight line but i was rushing, so it slipped from the paper up the ruler and cut from where i described to about an eigth of the tip of my finger, also cut through some nail.. this hurt alot :( lol. anyway i carried on working until blood was dripping all over.. then it hurt even more lol.. and i had to be taken to the nurse for stitches and such.. i got took home and for three damn hours had to hold my arm upwards and do nothing more >: ( proper boring.. so now i have it redressed and must miss school on tuesday to see the doctor again. out of quake for a long while me thinks.. at least 2 weeks :(

I'm always on the lookout for ways to drink high quality booze for as cheaply as possible, and this ranks right up there with my discovery of five-year-old (and therefore relatively inexpensive) scotches!

When I drink cheap Scotch it's always the KINGS of cheap ass blends.
