you could run r1q2 in wine, i know that for sure... wine is a compatability layer for windows programs, if you configure it right it games good if not its a fucking NIGHTMARE! lol just look up some good guides, i know there is one on overclock.net i can point you towards if you dont find anything but ive never tried it.... i dont really know if the anticheat.dll would load in wine but its my guess that it would

running windows in a virtual box would definitely allow you to run r1q2 with anticheat... however, i dont know much about how well the networking works on a virtual box and i dont know how good the performance is... with a multicore processor you can probably use the software to dedicate an entire core or 2 to your virtual box but im not entirely sure on graphics

if you want to run quake2 in linux though, it will run natively with aprq2 just fine thats what most linux users around here do... the problem with that though is no ac

and if you have a low end computer, its worth noting that on my duel boot machine winXP and ubuntu (much older version) i got doom3 running with the native installer straight form id so no emulator, virtual box, or compatibility layer.... in winXP i got a lot of frame drops and a lot of system lag that would cause sounds to echo in linux, i was running a 100% solid 60fps with very little frame drops, and no lag in sound or anything of that sort that i was getting in windows all this in linux while running a very impressive window manager in the background (makes aero look like dos)

Been using it a week now, made me get 100 more fps in wolfenstein somehow o.O dunno what the secret is there but i'm sticking with it...and the dual boot option keeps the woman happy too.  good fucking OS thus far.

Have you gotten quake 2 to work on there? I can't seem to get that one to work. It's the only thing that is stopping my from not using Windows now. I tried pm'ing Jehar, but I guess he didn't want to help. Dizzy was trying to walk me through it, but no luck.

Anyone know how to get Quake II working on here, please help!

man to talk to would be squarehimself as much as i hate the stupid homo, he does know his linux inside and out, he built the compiler for aprq2 on linux that comes with the quake2 kicker

you can pm his forum account or find him on irc somewhere

jehar just seems to ignore very well and is always too busy to do shit, so hes always a dead end if you need help with anything

also... you could just try running r1q2 in wine, see if that does it for you, however im not entirely sure how well that runs

dude... ubuntu is easier to use than windows in most cases lol... not to mention the entire news story is just full of lawls

at one point it even brings up open office being on the system instead of microsoft office... even though its 100% completely backwards compatible with ms office lol

an entire news story with people SOOOOOO computer illiterate is just so fail, thats not just like one person not knowing wtf double clicking is... thats like a large geographical area causing every even semi educated person with computers to epicly facepalm

I don't understand how she could have problems getting her system online. It's DHCP and you don't even need the Verizon disk. I use Verizon and have NEVER loaded their crapware disk on any of my systems. As for the Ubuntu fanbase, they are not making a favorable impression by harrassing her. It proves that nerds have no clue and shouldn't be allowed to interact with human beings. She is, after all, going to SCHOOL to learn how to use a computer. Some people just aren't technical and there is NO version of Linux that isn't technical in one way or another.

people dont understand how fucking EASY ubuntu is, and news stories like this just bash an amazing easy to use FREE operating system and hurt its media image and cripple its potential
