I agree, there is a fair amount of people that join tastyspleen with the intent to cheat.
most users are fair though.   the cheats usually are mild, such as wallhacks and see-you-in-the-dark type of stuff (maybe sometype of speed cheat in running/rail firing delay).  I dont mind those too much, but there are those few who are appearently, and suddly using bots.  the most noticable things are as follows:

 

-only shoots opponents closest to them, even if they are behind them. (i.e. i've seen players disengage the supposed cheater in battle by running away, and then a person spawns behind them, and immediately after, they turn around and shoot[also seen this on ppl with 300pings])

-only shoots those that get in the view of their crosshairs, even if they are already engaged in battle, and the person is fireing at them from right beside them.

-comes around corner constantly just enough to get you in their FOV and fire with 100% accuracy everytime as if they knew where u were. (also maybe a wallhack)

 

with the measures admins have taken these days to stop cheaters, cheaters have learned how to avoid detection by toning it down and missing out on a few extra stolen frags, they do this by programming their 'bots' to not be soo accurate, miss a percentage of the time, and only shoot in a 30-90 degree FOV.

i don't mind the little .pak cheats and skin mods to see in the dark as much as i do bots.  bots just ruin the whole game because you know what they did was either impossible or very unlikely.  i myself have experienced a few players who have shot me in areas they could of never known I could have of been, and i never moved, so they cannot say i made noise to give myself away.  but sure enough they jumped around the corner or wherever, and bam, 100% accuracy, not because their necessarily a bot, but because they knew i was there.  i believe this is due to the quake spikes cheat.  the cheat consists of a model mod that protrudes poles from the top bottom left righ front and back of the players, allowing you to see them through floors and walls. 

people don't realize how many people out there still cheat in any number of ways, and the ultimate cheat would be a server hack of some sort, allowing certain commands of code no ones seen before that allows for certain 'unkown features' enabled for them.  that would require modifying packets sent out, by having a external program change certain lines of code on outgoing packets to their choosing.

some people are soo good that sometimes you think their a bot, but no one is 100% on top of the game all the time, and thats what gives them away.  you don't hear of new bots being made, but their out there, and people are now makeing their own, since they we're prolly teens when they started q2, and now years later they can program.  btw, has the admins even thought of checking incomming packets and comparing a few for consistencies and irregularities?

fortunately, i haven't encountered too many cheaters, and if i do, i usually leave so i dont have to sit through the lameness.  i have spec'd some people, but like i said, sometimes its soo suddle, that a demo recording won't make a huge difference, because they will deny it up and down, hell their even soo cocky, they will say 'spec me, im no cheat'  the hunt is on!!

i have been playing quake since it first came out, so im not a newb.  but i can say that yes, these are trivial.  just discussing.  just because you don't see me around doesnt mean im not there   anyways, good players can have these characteristics without cheating.  I'm just trying to explain how suddle cheating has become so they don't get caught.  some players are really really good, i admit that (im one of them)  but no one has 100% accuracy by the way, no one.  everyone will atleast miss 50% of the time, guaranteed.  they may get some streaks going, but it's stastical fact in it's minimal.  you either hit or you don't.   not both   

note: please don't call people you don't even know newbs.  it is very disrespectful and rude.
