Timers are banned in nadl..... it wasn't even a question. They were last season as well. Timing is very simple in q2 opposed to other fps's, the use of timers is kind of silly.

hm... reading some of scooby's stuff he wrote on the matches from last nadl...

Yeah I wrote that right when I woke up, to clarify.... Timers were only used in that match, scooby/damiah didn't use them v. any of the NA players because we were all so strongly against it. This is why naymlis snuck in a win v. scooby on ptrip. It wasn't an actual rule, but it will be this time.

@sofiene- Timing is very easy with the gameclock in quake 2(everything is practically 20 or 30 seconds), and if you're efficient this way it's just as deadly as a weapon... opposed to relying on a bind.

timers are banned ??? why  :???:  :???: ,timers are very helpful in duels,and it can be a deadly weapon if someone can master them,it will be cool if NADL allow the using of timers

timers cause the problem of not being able to use strategy with them so well because you cant mange several things at once... you cant know that rail will be back up in 15 seconds, you only know when its back up in 5... relying on timers is idiotic honestly :/ only maps it really works very effectively on (off the top of my head anyway) are dm3 cause you can time RL and YA, and then ptrip, cause you can time RL and RA... any other map, they dont give that big of an advantage because there is much more items

i can almost guarantee that pro players like scooby and damiah who do use timers dont RELY on them, they just use them to assist with timing more exact

if you run anticheat you cant even use them on tastyspleen servers, hence why i think they should be disallowed... they are just kinda a cheap little trick for people who need the help timing items

In aprq2 you can enable timestamps, i find it easier to read things up top rather then the tiny ass clock at the bottom. So I just bind a key that says bind <key> "say_team Armor back in 20" that way i got the exact time stamp and its easier for me time it that way without concentrating right on the clock on pickups. No sound waves play with it. it just helps assist on exact timing.

Think you could just adjust your .pak so the gameclock is up top? Aside from AC blocking the use of timers(which was new to me), the method used to enforce this rule would be to review demos. From a demo POV, could one even distinguish your timer from timers including .wavs? I don't recall .wavs registering in a demo when played.

I assume so, being that my clock has been in the top right of my screen since..i don't even know, a long time though. And you just said that yours was annoyingly at the bottom :ubershock: . I've been out of state for awhile else I'd take a look in my pak to see how.

to my knowledge you cant alter the hud... i remember asking about it a lot when i started for the same reason :( tiny clock sucks ass...

i think the answer i got is that the hud layout is actually in the mode .dll code... when i run opentdm server on a local client with my older server version, timer is in the top right, same with osptourney, if i get on an opentdm server for tastyspleen, its bottom center just above stack values

only server that i know the match time is on the top right is on t4-noalias. you can up your hudscale size but that makes EVERYTHING big, and in 800X600 it takes up too much screen space.

The clock in the top right was due to that server being OSP tourney, not opentdm. Opentdm puts the clock at the center-bottom.

If you can't handle someone's style because of a map, then it's you that's lacking. I don't even know the map well, nor have I played it a bunch tbh. But when I do play it, I manage to have some really, really nice and cool prediction shots.. pretty much always, aka spam. Even with my limited experience on it. So it's not exactly... uhh as aim-based as you think. Sure it is if you start spawn raping someone due to them not being good at the map(what you have labeled yourself as), but in this map it's very easy to get a weapon off spawn then kill someone in 2 hits.. then you have to factor in whether that weapon is even available at respawn, and additionally if it has been collected cyclically by it's spawn. There's many non-aim based concepts to this map. Reacting off the spawn, both you and your opponent, is huge. I can confidently say that it's not the map's fault if you're getting raped by someone's superior aim. It's your fault for not knowing and practicing how to counter stuff like this. If someone has better aim than you and is abusing this fact, then that is just basic smart q2. Those are my thoughts when I read your complaint. Practice.

meh i can just see jump players with crazy rail like adren and slugs just using rail the WHOLE time against everyone, kinda like slugs already does on dm3, from my initial impression of the map, rdm7 is much more spacious so you cant punish people with rockets as easily as dm3...

i just dont think it has all the same elements as maps like q2rdm2 and ztn2dm3 which can be played a number of ways with a lot of different styles and reward both huge aim and huge headgame...

fine map by all means, just dont think it belongs in a tournament

Matter of taste I guess but I prefer the well executed aggresive style to the super cautious waiting style anyday.
Aim based? As opposed to what, spam based? Because for the most part the mediocre "technical" players are just runners with heavy diarrhea of rockets.

(On a side note, and maybe interesting for Koth, I know not a lot of people like q2dm7 (slimey place) but there is also a modified version called dm7mod, I believe it's on Vanilla, which has 2 YA's instead of 1 RA + adrenaline and some other changes. )

lol apparently you dont get what i meant... i mean people who just rush in and win fights with the rail out lol :P people with crazy aim that really push that advantage...

you can however land A LOT of shots without having those perfect close range flick shots down, line them up :) good part of head game on maps, learn the angles and listen to time the shots

just had a great idea for both nadl tastyspleen and something else lol :)

could hold one or two short tourneys of a different type like 2v2 or maybe just a smaller little exhibition kinda tourney to warm people up for nadl before hand :D and try getting donations from it, and say half the donations go towards tastyspleen for quadz to pay server fees and half of them go towards a small cash prize for nadl :)

bet if jehar stepped in, got some support from some quake live communities, some things like that, some of the more generous players, could do a small buy in tourney or something, or just have our top pros play challengers, and every time they get fragged they donate a small amount of money kinda like what defiant has done with ffa :)
