about king of the hill (KOTH)

yesterday,i saw in the irc channel the annoucement of the koth signups so i said why not trying it,but when i wanted to play,i saw that it was so late that i cant play ( it was 3 of the morning and i have to wakeup in 7 of the morning,4 hours sleeping    )
so i have some sugestions about the koth

1- why it is maked too late,you have to think about the no-americans-players,so why dont you change the time so we can play ?
2-also some players ping so high,so playing maybe a little difficult (180-200 ping vs 30-40 ping    ),so maybe the player that will play(the one whose will choose the map) can choose the server too but the server must be hosted by TS (viewable in the GOTO )

this is can make some no-american (and no-sametime too ) play and enjoin the koth event

I'd like to see a euro player solution. That'd be pretty cool. A lot of European players are interested and many have stayed up late just to participate.

KOTH has 2 basic principals that drives it. First, it's got very little organization necessary. There's a single sign up, a single server, and the game times do not wait for you. Second, part of the reason that Jehar started a Quake2 version was to kick start the NA dueling community.

I think that it would be really cool to run a few special occasions on saturdays at an earlier time. We could do something like have 2 servers and the winner also chooses the map and which of the 2 servers to play on. That way the challengers can always get the ping advantage. This would probably only be done every so often, like once every month or so and would just replace the koth for the week.

It's all just chit chat but it never hurts to make suggestions.

I'll give him some credit. For once, he didn't really do anything too lame during KOTH event, expect for lame gaudeamus out of a real dm1 match. According to him, you need to pick a map that's not dm1 for a serious duel, even though it's always played in EDL matches, and it's one of Purri's map choices in EDL. Vae's logic continues to baffle minds. 




FYI: I am not from Warsow and I don't play the game. If there's any shooter I'm from, I guess it's Quake Live.

Purri uses dm1 because it's one of his strong maps, not because he thinks it's a great duel map.

Q2 only has one actual "balanced duel map" and that's ztn2dm3. There are a handful of others that are capable of having a competitive duel on, and dm1 is one of them. I like dueling on dm1....most of the time.

Back on topic, the time difference is what? 5-6 hours ofcourse depending on what timezone you're in  

It would be nice to have an answer to this question :
Can koth be arranged a few hours early? Like the next one, or perhaps the one after that so that more people have a chance to be informed about it?

Sofiene, we do attract some people over the pond people, whom play on the NADL server and do very well for their ping. Xrdvx has advanced a significant amount since i started playing koth.

As for the time problem, as you know the event is casted, which is why everyone loves it so much, when the casting isnt happening no one feels like playing cuz we cant go back and watch. That being said our caster Jehar works at a job all day, comes home and then he comes and casts for us, so i'm assuming starting the event earlier is a bit outta reach for now.

it's a shame that the time difference is effect the over seas people, but for now theres only so much that can be done. They try to make KOTH as fun and as fair as possible. Sorry :/

i don't participate anymore (though stomping vae was a highlight every week) because of the time thing but I wouldnt expect european time zones to be worked around, while its not an american specific event it is held on american time zones, in american servers and run by one of the finest 'mericans I know! (and participated in by one of the worst, ahem). if you were to drop the time to a euro friendly one, it would probably deterr the main group of participants.

Adam and Erica are right.  If you wanted to do a KOTH event over where you are, you might want to see if there are any servers out your way or even look into starting one out in your area.  Kinda like me owning a car and loaning it out to you while I am driving it.  Just a little difficult to try to do
