45 cal is all anyone ever needs for home protection...in fact you could argue the 45 is a bit overkill for that.

If I ever heard someone trying to break into my house in the night, I'd probably pick up my shotgun before picking up my 45acp. I know I'd rather have someone shooting at me with a pistol than a shotgun. My shotgun isn't exactly ideal for the job since it isn't a short barrel. It belonged to my grandfather, I couldn't bring myself to fuck it up by sawing it off. Maybe one of these days I'll find me a decent 12ga pump I can saw off and fit with a Pachmyr pistol butt grip, perhaps a forward grip on the pump too.

The way I see it, if someone breaks into your house and you're properly armed you always have the upper hand, home field advantage goes a long way and knowing the terrain of your home light and dark gives you the element of supprise.....before the intruder knew what hit him he'd be dead.  Some friends say they would make themselves known first and maybe fire a warning shot to scare em away....I say he knew the costs of breaking into your home in the first place so assume he's ready to pay the fuck up with his life.
