I was wondering, as someone who hasn't played much TDM, aren't the binds and messagemodes pretty much like ctf? I used to do ctf exclusively because I enjoyed the kinship/personal interactions with other players. There is something about being a part of a TEAM that makes it fun on a higher plane. Yea, you get the wise-cracks and griefers who talk smack and stuff, but from what I've seen on t.s., I bet the good players here would be tolerent and helpful to nOObs. Therefore, I shall try this TDM thing of which you speak.

P.S. Why no ctf action on t.s.?

TDM and CTF co-exist in that fashion.. you can talk to teammates through mm2 (messagemode2).  Bind a key to messagemode2 and you're set.

as for CTF.. I guess it's lack of desire/demand for people to play.. there's been pleanty of talk about having a CTF day, but no one has really followed thru, plus now we don't have a server to play on in teh commuinity, so that hurts it a lil more.. I love CTF, but imo, it's no fun when there's less then 4 players per team.. I also don't like the insta-gib CTF, it takes a lot of the stratigic aspect out of the game.. there isn't enough defence and it's all boring when you can't use more than one weapon.

Element, obviously you would know a LOT more about the strategic side of Quake 2 and its various mods than I would, but instagib CTF does have the hook, and from my (admittedly limited) experience it takes quite a bit of skill to wield it as skillfully as some instagib CTF players do.  I do, however, see your point in that the lack of other weapons would take away from a person's strategic options, leaving it as merely a clickfest with skilled hook users... but it's still fun under the right circumstances!  CTF in any form is fun!   :headbang:

BTW, thank you Crazed for the informative site.  As well as having informative bind-writing tutorials, it has some entertaining demos on there as well.  I attempted to write a teamplay config, but instead of doing what I wanted it to do I ended up spamming the server several times.  Back to the drawing board!

I tried TDM last night and got my butt sorely kicked.  I felt like a chicken with its head cut-off.  Every time I got to a weapon it was gone and a rocket was headed towards me!  But man, what a great time.  I wanted to thank Bigwig[KEA] for putting up with my n00bish playing and also for playing me in those 1v1's.  Man, what a humbling experience.  One day, you just wait!  *shakes fist*

I've always found the locations mentioned in team binds to be of little use, given that I don't know the specific names of the locations referred to.  But, that's me.

Okay, I have a simplistic config for locations now (thank god for Q2advance... I only need two binds with their LOC system).

Here's my  problem.  Because I am needy, I want to have a simple system of weapon dropping where if I:

Press a weapon key it selects the weapon.
Press CTRL + weapon key it drops the weapon and some ammo.
Press ALT + weapon it says "I NEED THIS WEAPON!"

or something like that.

Is this possible?  And if so... how?

Bear in mind that I bind my weapon selections like this:

bind a "select rocket launcher;select railgun"

because it saves me time and I bind less keys... but I don't know how to make multiple weapon selects to one key AND have CTRL and ALT do separate functions.

Confusing enough for ya?

Any help would be appreciated and BIG THANKS in advance.

Well I have something similar to drop my weapon. Like they're bind on some keys and to drop them I ned to press mouse2 plus the same key I use for that weapon.  I don't have my config files now as I'm at work. Maybe I'll post them tonight.

Hehe, I would link you to a post where I try to explain my team-drop config, but just read it and think it's probably way too complicated to just read and learn for someone who is not me, cause I wrote them for myself and noone else really.


Anyway, I get your idea and it's not all that hard actually:

What you need is to make some aliases. The idea is to rebind your weaponchange keys when you hold in CTRL, so instead of switching weapons you drop the weapon and ammo instead, and while holding in ALT you say "I NEED THIS WEAPON". However, I could easily write you a fairly good working dropping config if you posted your weaponbinds as they are now. If you do that I'll try to make you some nifty binds :)

I'll put in bold wherever I actually bind a specific key in this drop config, so you can change it yourself if you don't want it exactly like this


I'll give you an indication on how I would write them though:

bind a RL
bind w CHAIN
bind q SSG
bind r GL
bind g HYPER

let's say you got these keys as weaponkeys, with several weapons on each. I'll

This is a version of Bigwigs weap drop alias which I cleaned up and modded the ammo dropping. Only 1 additional key is needed to drop any weapon and any amount of ammo. It works like this:
 
The same key used to select a weapon is used to drop that weapon. By holding down mouse3 and pressing the weapon select key you will drop that weapon, an ammo pack, wave, and give a drop message including location (loc needed). While still holding mouse3 each additional push will drop one ammo pack. replace the "*" in 3 places for each weap under:
