Maybe I can take Playboy's #2 slot.  I know the time we played it was very close, so I'm sure our skill levels are about the same

It seems to me that if an event is scheduled to take place at a certain time and you cant make it during that time, then dont sign up   
 

Yeah, the entire signup process was absent of any kind of description or knowledge. The only reason that anyone knows any times or rules is from RR and even Vae Victus on the forum based on IRC discussions AFTER the singups were complete. The event was extremely unorganized.

If you're saying that players should not sign up to any tourney that doesn't discuss this ahead of time, then it is still teh contest's fault. If your saying that signups before establishing a time are fine because other contests, like NAIL, NADL, EDL, etc... schedule times around the players rather than the players scheduling around the contest, then it is still the contest's fault for not scheduling around the players.

I personally knew the schedule early, after signing up though, and thought I was going to make it until my aging Grandmother that sees my children maybe once per year, decided to visit. I know that your comments are not directed at me, and I have lots of respect for you since you run and help run plenty of tourney's around these parts. It was just a pretty ignorant statement. This method of running a contest, as observed last weekend is very prone to losing players due to scheduling conflicts.

Yeah.. peewee, I just can't believe how I was treated when discussing this with SG. I was told to fuck off basically and ignored when everything I had to say was reasonable. If shun would have been at least empathetic with the situation a little bit, and a little honest, then it makes it a lot easier to just say ahh oh well, looks like I can't make it. He on the other hand chose to disregard, ignore, and/or treat all of my legitimate concerns with rudeness. All he cares about is meeting the live broadcast schedule yet in the process he's losing the most watchable players. He tried to say 'i've run tourneys with zero4, rapha, and dahang and it worked just fine'..as if the comparison can even be made between a QUAKE 2 tournament and dedicated pro gamers. It's also laughable because I have more experience with tournament scheduling and management with the q2 scene than almost anyone that's around anymore.

There's even a rule that states they can bend the rules to the organization's will at anytime they seem fit. Makes all the rules kind of pointless.. he can just throw the rulebook at me yet tell me to fuck off when I do it to him. It's laughable.

While I really don't want to get in the middle of this, and would rather just see the matches play themselves up, I would like to make a small distinction:
A weekend cup was discussed by RailWolf and myself, due to the fact that the past few leagues that got run just got run down into the ground by people not showing up. This is part of the reason why there hasn't been an NADL/NAiL etc for quite some time. So RW and I agreed that a one-weekend, all-at-once cup (as opposed to a long-running league) would at least generate some games, even if everyone could show up. This way nobody gets stressed over the fact that people are just not being around, and delaying things. So for better or worse, getting everything done in 1/2 days seemed to be the best shot at getting tourneys rolling again.

Now, while I realize that there may be some comparisons to other leagues/tourneys that had longer timespans to accomodate schedules, the distinction is that this is an Event, from time x to time y. To be honest, I was kinda surprised that 32 people said they could put aside an entire weekend; I never really anticipated more than 10-12 players making it for this kind of schedule. But that was going to be okay, because even *some* players getting matches going, broadcast, awarded, etc, would set the stage for *other* leagues, of the kind that we haven't seen around here for a while.

That being said, I really wish the best of luck to the people who make it, and I'm really praying that this gives the kick in the pants to the competitive q2 scene that it's needed. If the tourney runs well, we can expect more like it, and if it doesn't go well, then I'd hope that the fact that the attempt was made would be enough for the TS community to say "hey, we can do better than that", and do.

People not showing up wasn't a concern for the last NADL. So people 'not showing up' isn't the reason why NADL isn't running anymore. I could go on my account and start it right now if I wanted to. There's a new crop of players that I'm sure would be interested in it, although the talent pool wouldn't be as deep.

The scheduling of the tournament was just not clear, and it's just completely unfair that you would be so strict about something that's not even clearly specified... not once has anyone addressed this, not to mention only the first round was scheduled on the bracket!! I have nothing against a 2 day thing...... people need to actually know though, Jehar. And as I've already shown..... no one knew.

There's supposed to be another cup after this, right? Am I going to get a shitty seed in the next one because of this stupid bs? I have q2 on a usb and I've been contemplating the idea of playing at work(@ work now) but I don't even want to waste my time with it after how much of a douche shun was to me. The 'fun' behind this tournament is kind of non-existent to me now.

btw... 2 day, all-day, isn't realistic..... at all. Not even close. 2 rounds per evening, when people are off work and most likely to be at home, over the course of a few days IS realistic. That wouldn't hurt the amount of viewers and exposure either... lol

While the other complaints are valid, I would like to point out that I'm not involved in the setup of the tourney, except pitching my .02 every once in a while.

1) If you're interested in getting NADL going, I'd be more than happy to help facilitate it in whatever way I can. However, it hasn't been running for a while, for a multitude of reasons. So again, even if this cup bombs, I hope that it would make us all look at our own tourneys a bit more, and get that rolling again.

2) Someone must have thought that putting start times on r1 of the bracket was going to be sufficient, but I can see that the lack of specified start times on the news post as a bit of a flub. However, I really doubt that this is more than an honest lapse of attention to editing the post after times were confirmed. I don't have the right to apologize for anyone, but I'd encourage those who can to do so.

All that being said, I still look forward to today, and I'm still rather excited at the prospect that it's happening at all.

He does need to stop treating quake2 like quakelive... its two COMPLETELY different communities built on different values :/ as i have said multiple times to the SG staff and i believe even on these forums some where, they havent bothered to learn the community at all and because of that cannot effectively run a tourney...

Hope at least it goes at least half way decently...

Just got back and going to tune in now. I wanted to clarify my post.

I love the idea of weekend tournaments with strict schedules. I'm just responding to the idea of blaming players for signing up if they can't make it. There are probably a myriad of ways to better handle this.

I'm sure that SG had the intention of running a longer set with more flexible times. Once the tastycast made the point that the 2day event was a super cool way to do it, then they should have used the mailing list to send out the times and have people confirm the times, or drop out, through some kind of interface. Even redoing the signup is fine since they obviously had a mailing list.

So anyway, I'm glad that it's going on. I appreciate everyone's effort. I think it's an awesome idea. I plan on enjoying as much of it as I possibly can. I wish I could have made it. I just don't think that there's any way to blame the players on this one if they couldn't show up. (neither is there any single past example of a fixed time tourney like this where all players end up showing)

well i beat reaper on rage pretty nicely without sound and with a ball mouse.... then the next 2 matches i went afk too many times, had to restart twice, etc...(forfieted dm3 entirely...) ending with the final match me being up on dm1 and camping 1-0 for the guaranteed win when my boss walked in. Bummer. kudos to reaper for putting up with all of that, though. A little more frustrating for me I think, though

I think i'll be on my own system by the time LB starts up. Lets see how far I can get

beat dodson then ni-ux making my way up LB. Then played hunter. He's got some decent aim... had him by an ok margin then I started to laggggg big time. Tried to just use my speed and out-run him for 5 mins on rage but the lag was making me catch walls and corners and stuff... so he barely +1'd me at the last second. Lag was intense so I gave up after that. GL v. adren tomorrow.

wish I wouldn't have had such a crazy situation for this tournament.. would have done better.
