What are the opinions of forcing a forum mute on l0ckp1ck? I reckon there should. Everyone who says they see him type say its all crap. Its as easy as cake. The only people who may not be able to stand this are the people who share each others herpes, but thats their own fault for using shitty 2nd rate sex toys in the fist place.

Also what is the belief about people still being able to cry even with anti cheat? I have cried about people with anti cheat and they still do some leet things.

the biggest story i hear thats complete bullshit is people using the 3.20 client still, while i hear many good things about it, its smoother, its more stable, blah blah blah, i dont think any of it really holds water :/ ive been playing with r1q2 the entire time ive played quake2 and it plays great, there is a lot more cvars to make things play exactly how you want them too also

I'd find it hypocritical if a stock id client wasn't allowed & only modded "safe" clients were.   Basically, in essence, this thread is saying that we shouldn't play Q2, we should play a modded version that's "safer".  But using audio timers, custom replacement models/skins & aliases are all ok?  Doesn't even make sense!

I'm pretty sure you're being sarcastic, but honestly, some people still DO whine and carry on even when people use AC. They always claim that AC is hacked or completely useless, yet they can't provide any evidence of such a claim. It's odd, because I can provide tons of evidence that AC actually catches people trying to cheat. Honestly, anything that can be engineered can be reverse engineered, so yes, AC can be hacked, HOWEVER... From what little I know about these rare occasions when someone has managed to circumvent AC (through careful deliberation which goes beyond what the average player might able to do), we have proof that these people don't get away with it FOREVER. Like I said before, what AC or rcon scans don't catch, the watchful eyes of other players and admins WILL catch. More so, the watchful eyes of R1CH will eventually notice discrepancies with people using workarounds... ain't that right, Razor?

I've never actually played on a server where it's forced on everyone, but I've heard there are a couple out there.
In theory it would make it harder for anyone to be hacking, but in practice, how hard it is to get away with hacks tends to come down to admin activity as opposed to using AC solely as a passive defense.

The factors that really seem to matter beyond having AC running on the server, are constant vigilance from the server admins, an intelligently designed server config, and how tight the admins are willing to make their AC whitelists and forced AC lists to get the level of security that they want.
 
Some servers that have AC, like the T4 servers, are set up with only a minimal amount of effort taken to restrict models and sounds, and almost no active admins that are watching people's play on a regular basis. This leads to a situation where people are using AC and any damn models that they please short of old known spiked ones, and still showing up as having a legit client when they could easily be getting away with things they should not. Even if I didnt ping nearly 100ms to those servers, I don't think I'd want to play there unless the gaping holes in the security were fixed.

I don't need some slapdick hacker covering his ass by saying things like "oh check the aclist, I come back with no bad files" when there is no file list in place to compare against.

Even though I don't see a windows-only anticheat-forced DM server in our futures, I would love it one day to see an "aclist" come back on a TS FFA server and not have only me and like one other person out of 10-16 players come back as legit.

Sometimes realizing that so few players are bothering to prove that they are legit is discouraging for the people who voluntarily use AC and no bad files and really want to have good legit matches. There are times when I leave a server because certain players show up who just won't use it, can't be forced to with the evidence that exists, and have had fairly suspect play for years on end.

Wouldn't a forced ac server just be a windows-only country club?   No penguins allowed. And don't forget to clean up your microsoft's poop with a shovel and wheelbarrow.

An example of a forced ac server would be the railwarz servers (worms). I have played on it with linux though It is possible to legitly bypass AC if you have linux/mac: AC Token. Server admin has to assign you a token which is just a variable set on your client that the server checks. If your code matches whats in the server you are exempt.

Between that system and the one we have (force AC on suspected/caught cheaters) I think the one we have is better to manage and doesnt automatically rule out anyone connecting.

I can do it on my own, but that would take a while. AC clients don't work when I install them. I always have to go back to Reals website and find all the missing files. And then update the god damn thing. Even then it doesn't work. Which is why I want you to go through the trouble for me
And even then! I don't cheat. I find anyone pathetic enough to cheat at Quake 2 is a loser at life I have my own Quake morals down.

Sorry I foegot to mention the verson of quake I use is R1Q2 it was laging and crashing when I had ac but when I deleted the ac dll it all stoped runs fine now

 I had the same problem with AC and r1q2. I thought it was my connection I installed Aprq2 and ac   lagg free.

I changed all ACME servers to AC Optional about 4 months ago....except for the match server, we still require AC on it for obvious reasons.
