force anti cheat

what are the opinions of forcing anti cheat on all servers? i reckon they should. everyone who says they can't use it or they have trouble installing it thats crap. Its as easy as downloading it and installing it like any other program. the only people who may not be able to are the people who use linux, but thats their own fault for using a shitty 2nd rate operating system in the fist place.

Also what is the belief about people still being able to cheat even with anti cheat? I have seen people with anti cheat still do some sus things.

There are absolutely NO Mac owners around here. I reckon they all just toy around with Garageband and iPhoto and hang out at Starbucks all day chuckling at reruns of "I'm a mac" commercials. 

P.S. I'm pretty sure linux users drink instant coffee. Does that make them 3rd rate, and OS X 2nd rate?

it was just a suggestion. don't see why it would hurt everyone to have ac. maybe r1ch can come up with one that works on linux and other OS but i still stand by my opinion that linux is a 2nd rate OS :p

it makes as much sense as forcing everyone here to re-log in every time they hit the "reply" button.  Just because it will stop a couple of post spammers from spamming posts. 

Quadz's pretty good about the AC thing.  If he's led to believe it's needed, he forces it.

kmquake2 also isnt a top notch client... if you want a pretty client that still works very well, use egl or even aprq2 aprq2 can look very nice if you tweak it although the particle effects arent as high end as the "pretty" clients, and also both egl and aprq2 support anticheat.dll

towards the comments downing linux, the only downside linux has is it is harder to use and may not support a few things... but thats nothing new, windows doesnt support a ton of things linux is an amazing operating system if its in the hands of some one capable, and i would love to see r1ch make a version of anticheat that worked with linux clients... however that would take all the clients for linux to update and all those users to update their clients...

the biggest story i hear thats complete bullshit is people using the 3.20 client still, while i hear many good things about it, its smoother, its more stable, blah blah blah, i dont think any of it really holds water :/ ive been playing with r1q2 the entire time ive played quake2 and it plays great, there is a lot more cvars to make things play exactly how you want them too also

if quadz forces anticheat on every server, we will lose a ton of players... i do think though that he can step up security for people who have anticheat though it would be great to have more people educated on what the different types of hacks look like when you watch some one, and better file checks on more servers is a must

Bad idea. Not everyone uses WinXP. The admins and other players are quite vigilant about spotting cheaters. Seems to be working fine by forcing AC when necessary. Things aren't broke, why "fix" it?

you hear alot of people claiming you can still use hacs even with ac. how true is this? i was amazed to hear naymlis the other day accuse slugs and f0cus of using hacs. don't know if its true or not though

I'd find it hypocritical if a stock id client wasn't allowed & only modded "safe" clients were.   Basically, in essence, this thread is saying that we shouldn't play Q2, we should play a modded version that's "safer".  But using audio timers, custom replacement models/skins & aliases are all ok?  Doesn't even make sense!
