DM Server suggestion

the granade limit thing is ignorant. take a player "mong" that plays in DM. the poor basterd plays with one hand, and does camp cause thats how he plays. why take away his fun? i will agree campin is frustrating but its even more fun to remove them from their tent.

Theres a dm2 server n TS. maybe if requested that can be converted to a Fusters like config..

That would rock    I prefer the FFA format over TDM (generally), but the lack of similarly skilled players to play against is a tad frustrating at times.  I owe a LOT of this due to the fact that people refuse to play the game with any attempts at gaining weapon skills and instead focus on the easiest/spammiest frags possible.

Well I'm really not trying to upset any 'mongs' out there. 

Don't forget, a 5 grenade limit doesn't stop grenade spam. Once you've offloaded all 5 you can then go and pick up another 5.

What Punk was pointing out was that players should not be able to win maps just by grenade spam alone. Capping the max out to 5 will definately help prevent that.

well since you like the idea, you can start a poll for that. I would surely vote yes. Since dm2 dont get much traffic. having it converted and attract players would be great.

dammit.   hand grenades are one of my fav. weapons... I even spent a couple years playing with 'nades almost exclusively (and no, i don't mean the grenade launcher.)  I still play nades-only sometimes -- in fact I have a standard apology for when I run out of ammo and have to frag someone with a less civilized weapon like TEH R41LGUN: "sorry, out of nades!"

Tastyspleen has reached a point where much of it is built around a culture of nade only players. We actually have a regular player named "justthrowinnades". We have regular handgrenade only tournaments. TS hosts r1ch's hand grenade only mod titled BANG. The railz server starts all players with nades in case they choose to use them. A player here (granny? correct me if I'm wrong) coined the term Nade Clowned in honer of owning people with only hand grenades.

5antana and the all powerful quadz Oz are famous nade only heroes. I even (with the help of complete luck) bested 5antana in the KOTH event using only nades. You would get a better response asking to remove all red armors and megas rather than limiting nades.


As mentioned before, I'm sure that quadz would be more than happy to test out all of your changes on the DM2 server but with his special brand of humor, expect all players to spawn with exactly 6 grenades.

This isn't about anti grenades, it's more about anti 'lame tactics'. I agree that hand grenades probably require the most skill to use in battle and can produce some amazing frags. 

The problem is that there are a number of players who constantly just go for a grenade launcher and just crouch and spam off ledges. There is no skill involved in this at all. A player who spawns in the MH room in Q2DM1 can have easily collected 20/25 grenades to rain down from the top of the lift.

This server setup wont stop that happening but after 5 grenades, spammers will need to think of alternative weapons or go looking for more grenades. Also on Fusters, if you pick up an 'all ammo' pack then the 5 grenade limit is removed until death. Compromise?

Very few people care about "lame tactics" anymore. And you ARE punishing nade users for the sake of a pretty lame argument. Any good player will tell you that grenade spammers are very easy to kill. Quite frankly, just get better at the game and stop complaining! (and you have to read some old conversation to understand how epic it is the -I- would ever tell anyone this)

Sure DM is hardly vanilla but people are just playing the game as it was designed. As it was designed you only get 5 grenades for a weapon pickup, grenades are scarce in most maps, weapon stay prevents constant rearming (as opposed to quake 3's absolute unanimous support of weapon camping... Worst game design decision in history!!!!!!!), and grenade launchers are one of the slowest weapons as far as attack frames go. It's roughly as slow as the railgun.

Effective spamming is impossible if there are not enough players, so how about if you stick to the lower player limit. You could also suggest to remove the grenade launcher pickup altogether. You could just get better at the game. You could also suggest smarter ideas like making the Grenade launcher use rockets so that spamming with it is harder to do and you are wasting more important ammo by doing so. You could even just get better at the game.


Welcome to the community, and I can tell that you have the best of intentions but I haven't been able to stress enough that handgrenades are ingrained in this community like collapsed veins in amy whinehouse. You're making a pretty bold suggestion to ask us to set this aside for a new player. It's on par with coming out and saying "I think that spiked models should be considered legit!". Not a quick way to make friends.

And to give you a little word of warning that we learn from good old toxic monkey. If you complain about a weapon, people will use it more. I'm sure that the server logs show chaingun deaths doubling every time that he enters a server.
