« on: May 19, 2010, 12:54:56 AM »

if you had issues putting a 100% DRM free pirated game on a (pirated?) windows OS, I'm imagining installing on Linux will take you & turn you in to garden mulch.  ;)

Um.
Aprq2 has full linux sources, and Jay Dolan has massaged them to be even better:
http://jdolan.dyndns.org/trac/wiki/AprQ2

Grab the svn, compile, and you're flying. This is a full-featured modern client, with all the bells and whistles we've come to expect.

My current setup with this build:

why? quake2 runs native in linux, its not some shitty wine thing, its not an emulator, its actually native, might as well just stay in linux instead of wasting the time to reboot

i say the more you can run native in linux the better

linux is just awesome PERIOD

if you want a fully functional computer its 100% fine and free :) more customizable to your needs and faster

you can do all normal tasks on it just fine, multimedia stuff, word processing, everything with firefox should work, can play flash games, browse the web, its extremely fast...

the ONLY thing holding linux back imo is lack of support for games :( id software has always been great with at least half assed supporting linux though

the more people that convert to linux the more support it will get in the end :)

My intention wasn't to game with linux in the first place. I really wanted to see what it was like to use compilers for my C programs and web browswers.
Which is why I wanted to boot back on Windows Vista when I would play Quake 2, since it is the only PC game that I play at all since I was like...8 years old.
Although, I'm noticing that the more that I start this computer up, I'm booting on Linux a lot more on Windows. I kind of forgot what using Windows is like :uhoh:
I really like Linux, so what ever the trouble is to use quake 2 on Linux I'll figure it out in time :penguin:

...fuck Windows

well if the only game you play is quake, there is no reason you should ever need to boot into windows :) unless your using some weird crazy ass proprietary program that you cant find a free one that does the same shit in linux

linux just makes a better desktop...

honestly what most people dont even know is the wonders of package managers :) if your using one like synaptic which comes with ubuntu... need a program? quick search, pick one, it will download and install it for you lol

ive never been able to be as productive in windows as i was linux, just because of the synaptic package manager in ubuntu

need to convert more people to linux, or at least make em try it so they stop hatin lol overclock.net has a good linux challenge thread up a lot of people should check out
