ROFL! Ok, I'm easily amused, but this thread had some hilarious posts. Down here in the south, knowing how to shoot a gun has always been a part of the culture. It's just something we learn from adults as kids and then pass it on to the next generation. We don't have to hunt for food as much now that they have them fancy grocery stores, but we still hunt and shoot. I taught my sons gun safety beginning with a BB gun (i.e., you treat that thing like a loaded 12 gauge). I didn't have to teach my wife...her daddy did that. No, shes not a toothless tom-boy - a pretty southern belle who can load, aim and fire a shotgun or pistol. That usually has more of an effect on intruders than a soliloquy.

That's my kind of girl.

That sort of mentality about firearms is also present up here in the backwoods of the northeast. My father taught me the principles of firearm saftey at an early age. I think it's better to teach your children how to use a gun safely and responsibly than to forbid them from using them.

Likewise agreed, I never learned about weapons from family (not having one does that

) and just grew up hard.. I think a basic familiarity (sp? fuck, might not even be a word) with firearms and other basic weaponry would have saved me a bunch of trouble and some time (3 years in the military could have been better spent partying

By the time I was 13 I had taken gun safty classes and passed them with my friend.We scored the highest at the range with the .22's. The next week I was out with my dad hunting quail..dove..rabbit.I still have the hunter/trapper badge I got from that class..which was in El Paso TX.Goodtimes.Teach your kids how destructive a gun can be, and they will respect that weapon for the rest of they're lives.

I bought some brass knuckles yesterday. They rule. I'm waiting for someone to piss me off so i can smash their face. These things are pretty beefy too, they're about 3/4 of an inch thick.

Nuthin's better than a good ol pig sticker. This company Al Mar makes some amazing knives. I would buy their stuff if i could afford it. http://www.almarknives.com/

Also, if i had a ton of money I would buy a knife with a damascus blade. They'll rust to death if you give them half a chance, but they're amazingly strong, and incredibly beautiful. Here's a good example: http://www.agrussell.com/var/storage/original/image/php1Fudbe.jpg

Almar and AG Russel both make very good knives, but I like folders pretty much exclusively and my favorites are benchmade. (see pics above) ... 'bout time for a new one.

Benchmade is great. I love AG Russell, but everything is so damn expensive. If I had the money I'd buy a Boker folder.

i really dont care much for folders.. im a fixed blade fan, ive got a couple switchblades but i rarely/never carry them

agrussell makes some gorgeus knives.. i think i have one, but i could be mistaken (i have more than a few

)

Yeah, there's really very few folders that are worth a shit, 99.9999% are crap. The problem with most is either a weak pivot, which might break or jam, and/or the locking mechanism which might fail causing injury to yourself. My benchmade folders have seen some fairly rough use (cleaning deer, prying and seperating bone joints) and feel confident it will hold up if my life were to depend on it.

But yes a quality fixed blade is the best for ruggedness and dependability. I have several of those too, some home made. Hmm, I should post a pic of them. brb
