For those who don't know why the racist issue comes up, there are 2 things that are not being discussed. The Jeremiah Wright issue and the Gates arrest. You can argue both all you want, I'm not arguing for or against either. Just clarifying what the underlying issues were.

I did want to comment on the "she chose poor words"

Yeah she umm called them "tea bagging rednecks" and it was allowed uncensored on air without rebuttal of any kind. It's fair making the comparison to Michael Savage, but comparing to Glenn Beck is inaccurate. The "tea bagging rednecks" comment is not comparable to Michael Savage because of it's content. It's because of it's ignorant boldness and lack of class. Two qualities that Savage has and Glenn would deny.

Just a quick thing on the tea parties. I was recently at another one in Columbus, Ohio (I'm often in Columbus) which made number 2 for me. It is really sad to see the press almost purposely marginalize those who attend. It was very under-reported, which if you read any reports on it you would think it wasn't a big deal. The Dispatch said there were 300 people or so attending....seems like almost nothing and deserves nothing more than a blurb in the local paper. Except I was there. There were EASILY 5,000+ people there. So when I see stuff like that coming from the media it seems like a purposeful tactic to under report these things for w/e reason (we all have our ideas as to why they would do this on purpose).

I also find it amazing that people still think they can reasonably liken their situation of being taxed WITH representation to people who were being taxed and occupied WITHOUT representation. The whole "Tea Party" concept is flawed and it's just being used to publicly bitch and cry as opposed to doing something useful like informing the people who actually vote about the real reasons that they are being taxed and who is responsible for it.

Instead of helping people become more informed voters who can identify candidates who will represent their wants (which is what we need) it's just a big finger pointing excercise and a cop-out.

If you're dissatisfied, DONT ELECT SHITTY REPRESENTATIVES in the future.



2. On the Gates issue: It boils down to 2 people regardless of color, acting stupid.

It is not illegal to treat cops like idiots, who are acting like idiots, when you're standing on your own property and not committing a crime. It's not an intelligent thing to do, given that cops tend to be guys who got shit on when they were kids and who take this out on everyone they see now that they have "authority", but it is in no way illegal.

"Mouthing off" is not disorderly conduct, and disorderly conduct would generally be something that has to take place in public anyway. This entire episode occurred on Gate's PRIVATE property, where he is entitled by our consititution to say damn near anything he pleases, yet he was arrested and booked under the charge of "Disorderly conduct".

He would have been within his rights to tell them "Here's my ID, now give it back and get the fuck off my property."
Once they had verification that indeed it is his property, they should have left anyway.

Instead he ran his mouth when they asked for ID, and pissed off a cop who thinks he's the law of the land.
Not too tough to figure that one out.

maybe next time, I'll include a little blurb in tiny writing at the end of my post that reminds people to take everything they read, anywhere, with a grain of salt, and perhaps REALIZE THAT PEOPLE HAVE OPINIONS WHICH THEY VOICE AND THAT THEY DO NOT ALWAYS INSIST THAT WHAT THEY ARE STATING IS THE GOSPEL TRUTH.

You should notice that nowhere in my post did I state that my opinion, which is what posting consists of, is the ONLY opinion.


While you're busy blanket declaring "EVERYTHING I SAY" to be false, perhaps you could support your arguments with little bits of evidence or at least something beyond your own opinion.

PS. I know the local firefighters here, and went to school with many of them. They actually did join the fire dept. out of a sense of loyalty to the community and to serve people.The same cannot be said for our local cops or sheriff.

Our top sheriff just received a 5 year term for selling his authority to the highest bidders, our cops shoot a black kid dead about twice a month in Inglewood and similar neighborhoods when they aren't doing shit but being black at night time, and most of our sheriffs spent less than a year in the academy learning their jobs, yet 3+ years in the local jail as gaurds before they become deputies, meaning that they've spent more time around career criminals than they have learning how to protect and serve and aim their fucking guns at the right people. On top of this, the requirements to get into the academy here allow pretty much any tom dick or harry who ever got made fun of, a shot at getting their own badge and gun to go ride roughshod over people that they dont like the look of.

Perhaps it's different over there in lala land, or wherever it is that you live, but here, a shit ton of the cops ARE like that.

I believe the whole point of calling them Tea Parties is that the elected representatitives DON'T represent the voters. The have become tools of the lobbies and special interests, taking money in exchange for votes on special interest bills and pork and using all of that to gain re-election by outspending the opponents who come up against them. The whole point is the power of the incumbency. Just take a look at Ted Kennedy for an example of big money and incumbancy maintaining a position of power when he should have been voted out long ago.

The point of the right to protest for "redress of grievances" is exemplified in the tea parties. The bailout of the big banks is a perfect example of gib government pandering to the needs of big business at the expense of the American taxpayer. The senators make big lobby money, the congressmen make big lobby money and they all enjoy pork and the big banks pay big bonuses after failing miserably to maintain good judgement in their finances. This is what the protests are all about.

Most likely false. 2,000 in attendance at a graduation is a large graduation. 5,000 is more than double that. I'm not sure if I know any school district in my state that has had a graduation that large. 3,000 and MAYBE 4,000 sounds reasonable if you are in a huge school district. Also you're forgetting the point of his post. He is saying that the newspaper lied about the number. Don't forget that tea parties are national events. So that is 5,000 on top of the rest going on that same day, or week depending on scheduling issues.

Well that 1st paragraph is pretty much wrong at least to the ones I've attended. First of all, I never said 5,000 people was a lot...my point was it was reported as 300. You don't see a problem with that?? Second, Andrew Napolatano (hope I spelled it right) spoke at a recent one and was extremely informative. He basically gave a lecture on principle freedoms and the intentions of the founding fathers. He wasn't there to point the finger at anyone.

2nd, Glenn Beck does have his heart in the right place, he just can't keep his mouth under control. I like the guy, but he says stupid shit. Seriously though, ask yourself this...is Keith Olbermann any different??I mean there is no difference in the News Media. There is no objectivity. There were almost that many people in my senior class. If only one person came to see each one, it would make nearly 4k.
We filled an entire outdoor stadium that our high school shared with another, and the class in seats waiting for the speeches and such, took up half of a football field.

1. I will defer to your judgement based on your first hand accounts, since I've not been to one in person. From what I'd seen and the people that were chosen to be interviewed, I could see where some of the gerafalo angle was coming from.

A majority of what I had observed about them, thru mixed media coverage (a very shitty source ) seemed to be people milling about not really getting why they were there other than that somebody told them they were paying too much in taxes and not getting any say in how they were used. Many seemed to be sold on the patriotic illusion created by likening the tea party to what they were doing. (in one, people's lives were at stake for treason, in the other people are just standing around in one of the most free countries in the world, talking about stuff that they're allowed to discuss)

I doubt that media coverage is intentionally being alterred to downplay the rallies, but I can see how the media would backburner something like this while showing 5 straight days of Obama doing some random shit, or whatever celebrity du jour who made an ass of themself. Social reform movements are only something our media likes to show when everyone is riled up and there isn't shit else going on that will sell ad space. It's not that they want it to fail, they just don't care because it's not exciting enough to generate ad revenue. As such they aren't even willing to spend any real time doing some fact checking.

When it's just going to be a 10 second soundbite instead of a 3 minute special feature, they don't care about accuracy as much.
This could lead us into a big discussion about journalistic integrity but I wont go there...


on the rallies as you've described them:

Used as a platform to support voter education, and to elucidate the finer aspects of how certain people who are supposedly our representatives manage to stay in office when they aren't doing their jobs, these types of rallies could actually be useful.

In the past year, I've seen a lot of politicians shitting on and shutting down the ideas of others without actually putting forth a viable alternative idea, and I do hope that something can be done to show the public that we dont need people in our legislature that say NO all the time solely based on the radical ideology or party values that they pretend to support to gain re-election. They aren't representing anyones wants by not putting forth their own agendas/plans in an attempt to limit their political weaknesses.

We need people who are willing to look at all the options and attempt to bring their own angle to the conversation without just shouting each other down and quibbling over commas, or worrying excessively about how every word and action will affect their re-election campaigns. We also need legislators that are willing to run with a bill all the way thru the finish line instead of spending months on a bill only to shove it to vote prematurely based on poll numbers, or crap on it over one tiny provision that statistically makes no difference to the whole, and effectively make sure that nothing gets done.

Hopefully these rallies will help, at the very least, to focus more people's attention on holding our representatives responsible for their inaction, and how their occasional decisions are more often based on war chest contributors than they are on the wants of their constituents.

We can ascribe all sorts of motives to what he says, but the fact remains that he says very stupid things, with startling frequency.

I would say the same for almost every political talkshow host, or politics-news anchor that I've seen for years now.
Very few will even accept that another side of the coin exists, and the ones who do are so scatterbrained that they can't make a valid point without contradicting themselves. I literally can't stand to watch any of them for more than a few minutes and when I'm done, I'm left with a shitty taste in my mouth from most of them trying to shovel partisan bullshit down my throat.
